Getting shoes dyed? Does anyone do this anymore?

I've been searching for months for royal blue peep toe flats to wear on my wedding day. The only pair I've found that I like costs $250, which to me is friggin' ridiculous.

I'm considering just buying white peep toe flats and having them dyed. I know my mom did this when she got married in the 70's, haha. Anyone gotten shoes dyed before? About how much did it cost? Thanks!

  • I haven't had mine done yet but that is the route I'm going for my shoes as well. I ordered mine online from http://www.dyeableshoestore.com/. I'm pretty sure it is only $12 to have them dyed. I know David's Bridal does this as well.
  • David's Bridal has a line of shoes that are dyeable. My shoes from them cost $45 and it costs $4 to have them dyed. I heard from someone that the dye rubs off onto your feet so you should spray them with Scotchguard. I don't have experience with dying them though. Here's a link to DB's dyeables.

  • Thank you!! I will definitely check these out!
  • Lots and lots and lots of people still dye their shoes.  You can also try Zappos.  the RSVP line has a BUNCH of royal blue shoes.  I don't know about flats though.  But, zappos has a great selection of colored shoes.

The only downside of dying is that they will run if they get very wet. My understanding is a little bit of foot sweating wont make them run, but if you walk in wet grass, you may end up with blue toes.

Wear some really thin socks when you wear them around the house after you have them dyed. This will soak up th extra dye withouth it getting on your feet the day of!
  • I glitterized my own shoes, and along with all my bridesmaid Shoes. I bought white shoes from payless and did them green glitter. Really easy alot of work but they turned out great,
