Color Me Clueless

So after much searching well in advance(because I plan ahead), I found my dress. I found it at a consignment store and it had just arrived several hours before. It is an Oleg Cassini Cwg365 and will be altered some more to suit my style. I am basically clueless as to what colors would go well with this beautiful champagne/ivory dress. My bridesmaids and I had orginally decided to go with the Peacock color from DB but, when looking at a swatch with my dress, it looks weird. My fiancee wants the guys to wear gray but is not sure the colors will jive well. Our wedding will be next spring and I know pale neutrals would seem like a no brainer....all my bridesmaids are pale and hate anything pink/neautral. HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: Color Me Clueless

  • White/ivory goes well with literally everything. Choose whatever colors you like. But with the grey - personally I like lighter colors (which won't work with your bridesmaids...) but maybe like a lavender or light blue, although I think that a peacock color would look great too. You could also go for a neutral with them and have brighter flowers and/or shoes (but no one really notices shoes that much..)

Try not to think too far into it. Think of what colors you like and google images them. There are very few color combinations that flat out DO NOT work. Just pick what you and your FI like. My FI hated the thought of turquoise and brown until he googled "blue and brown weddings". Now he's giving me ideas! :)
  • What a beautiful gown! Agree with beardown that there are very few color combinations that do not work together. Closer to your wedding date, have your bridesmaids try on blush and champagne dresses to be sure they don't work on the individuals. It's still too early for them to be shopping. Relationships and sizes change. I recommend also you hold off nailing down your colors (some people start DIY way, way early) until you have your venue secured. To me, that is the single most important factor in color selection. It has sort of led us to selecting our colors.
  • I would go with the peacock, or the jade.. Mens warehouse has a new DARK gray suit, looks fancier and would look nice with a peacock or jade tie
  • I think you should use spring flowers as your guide.  Look at images of seasonal florals (flowers that are in season are cheaper, as you likely know) and find the ones you think are the most beautiful flowers that would also look good with your dess -- I would NOT select white flowers with that dress.  Let's say you decide it's peonies, lilacs, parrot tulips, hyacinths, and garden roses.  Then look at the colors these come in.  You could do a bouquet of pale yellow peonies, purple lilacs, green and white parrot tulips, purple hyacinths, and pale yellow garden roses.  Then, you sort of know that your likely best choice for bridesmaid dresses is within the color family of the flowers you picked that went best with your dress.  In that case, a bridesmaid dress in pale purple with a deep purple sash or a dress in butter yellow with a spring green sash would both work.  I hope this helps?  If you go on the dessy website, they have a way for you to their dresses in various colors available.  If you find several you can't decide between, for a small fee you can order a swatch.  I'd pick out flowers to go with your dress, then pick the bridemaid dresses that go with those flowers, then order the swatches to see which ultimately works best  THEN take this to the flower show (swatches and flower ideas) and have them finalize your florals.
  • Any color you want. It will go with anything.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks everyone. I am including a close up of the dress because the one pictured does seem a bit lighter.
  • with that color, I would personally chose the jade or peacock, or coral/ guava (but im partial to those because they're my color) (= happy picking!
