Redheads - did you pick flowers/accessories colors to complement your hair?

Now, I'm not a typical Irish redhead, but I do have a rich copper color to my hair.  I know that I look great in a lot of shades of green, and especially love me in turquoise.  I'm wondering about a bouquet though... Blues are tricky to get right in bouquets I think. But in another direction, I've never worn much yellow... but I think the general color pallet of rich red hair, a warm skintone, ivory-ish dress (not found yet), and a rich yellow something-or-other flower could look awesome.

What do you think? What have you seen done well, or done yourself? I'm open to silk or totally non-floral DIY ideas too.

Re: Redheads - did you pick flowers/accessories colors to complement your hair?

  • So are you asking what color flowers you should use in your bouquet that will compliment your hair color?  I think that is a bit odd if that is what you are asking.  It isn't like you will be holding your bouquet up to your head all night so it really shouldn't be an issue.

Now if you are wondering about what flowers to put in your hair to compliment your color then I think I would stick with white/ivory colored flowers.

    I know what you mean,
Being a red head myself i know colors are really freaking tricky to pull off white out looking like a rain bow.
That being said, i think with flowers you can do what you want. Maybe do a softer tone of the color you love... not like a neon version.
I think redheads look best with "classic" colors if that makes any sence lol.
I think ill have cream/ivory/white and soft pink. Maybe some champagne
  • I had all white flowers. And a white dress, incidentally, though I was positive I'd look better in ivory. If your skin has pink undertones like mine, you should try on at least one pure white dress to see the difference. As far as other colors, we did different shades of blue (sapphire is my birthstone and I have blue eyes).

As a strawberry blonde, I thought I'd look better in ivory too, but ended up buying a white dress. I was really surprised. I haven't decided on flowers yet, but will find something that compliments my girls' dresses and the time of year (spring), not my hair color.

You are not overthinking this -- redheads have to think about color in a different way than everyone else.  But the good news is that most colors will look good on or around you, you just have to be careful.  For me (a medium copper redhead), I'm going primarily with neutrals.  Light ivory dress with primarily neutral metallic beading (silver with some copper), and flowers heavy in the brown, white, and natural green family.  That leaves my hair to be the most colorful thing on me.

My advice?  Think about staying away from colors that are 180 degrees away from your hair (blue, green) to avoid the rainbow effect, and instead think about colors that will accent and complement your hair, like pink, coral red, etc.  The exact shade will be something you'll have to experiment with.
  • I'm a redhead and I've never really thought this much about colors.  As long as it's not yellow, orange, or red, I've found I look good in most colors.

  • I didn't worry about this at all - I'm a coppery auburn redhead and my wedding colors are a light aqua blue and a bright poppy red.  My flowers are all red carnations, though I'm not wearing any in my hair.  If you're worried about how the colors will look in pictures, I'd say the bridesmaid dress color is probably more something to think about than the flowers.  You'll be in lots of photos with a lot of that color, whatever it is.
  • I'm a redhead (since I was 14) with really cool pink undertoned skin. I've finally perfected my hair color to a perfect coppery-auburn (Joan on Mad Men). I'm actually using a lot of bright poppy red in my wedding. Because poppies are my favorite and I love red, it's going to look great. I actually ended up getting and ivory dress, but I really thought I'd end up with white. The ivory makes my skin look really creamy.

I'm not doing real flowers in my hair, but after the ceremony I'm switching my veil out for one of these: http://www.trashydiva.com/shop/Trashy-Diva-Small-Poppy-Clip-p691.html
My BMs will be wearing them in their hair as well.

To those saying I'm overthinking it - nope.  Here's a good article about redheads and colors: http://www.beautyriot.com/fashion/hot-clothing-hues-redheads-g6355 (Especially page 4. Yikes)

I also am a bit weird for a red, as I have yellow undertones to my skin. Maybe that's why I perked up at the thought of yellow flowers. All shades of pink clash pretty hard on me.

But it looks like yellows with gold undertones are accepted to be lovely with red hair. I was looking at this bouquet and wondering if I could pull it off, or if it would make my hair look dull or my skin look washed out:

But I don't think so now. I just need to figure out a cheaper DIY method to get that look. :)

Thanks to those who humored me. I know it was an odd question, but I was just curious. I'm thinking turquoise BM dresses with yellow bouquets for them and me.

Edit: And no, I won't "hold it up to my head" (but it may be up by my face in some photos), but my hair is very long and very thick and really just a major defining feature of mine.
  • I have auburn hair as well and no, I don't think you are overthinking things :) My dress is a champagne color and my flowers are deep purple and white...go with what makes you feel comfortable...I love the idea of turquoise and yellow - very beautiful! Congrats :)
