I think I found my dream dress...

So a few days ago I was looking at dresses...but I'm not sure what to think of it. I believe it's perfect it totally goes with our theme. The theme is Masquerade. Our two colors are gold and black...but the dress is a ball room gown style dress. I'll post a link to the picture. I'm only 5'3'' though....would it make me look shorter?

Re: I think I found my dream dress...

  • I felt....like a princess as odd as that sounds
  • If you felt like a princess, that's probably a good sign that you like the dress and should get it. Take a few pictures of you in the dress and then look at them a few days later. If you still like it on you in the photos, which is how you'll remember your wedding, then buy it.

I think its really pretty, but looks really really heavy.  Especially for a smaller girl.  I suggest wearing it for a few minutes while in the store.  Try sitting down in it and moving around.  If you still like it and its comfortable, then go for it.  But if it gets uncomfortable after only a few minutes, imagine what it will feel like after 8 or so hours in it.

  • IMO I think it's too early to get a dress, your bio says you're getting married december 2012. Styles will change, your opinions will change-especially if you're young!

Being engaged is SUPER exciting, and I know it's hard as hell not to get ahead of yourself, but I would try and take it slow. Looking at your other post you just got engaged...today?...seems shady to me. Slow down and enjoy the time with your FI

Yeah I'm gonna go with troll.  You just got engaged yesterday, and were supposedly completely shocked by the engagement and don't know what to think.  Yet you were looking at dresses a few days ago, and already tried them on.  Oh, and you're 18, can't forget that one.

ETA: Annnddd, not getting married for over 2 years from now, yet already trying on dresses?  And have a whole theme and color scheme picked out?  Nope, not buying it.  Troll.

  • I would concur with the other members - we also just got engaged a week ago officially and while I have been looking at gowns (because it is so much fun!) a lot can change in two years. We're planning a New Years Eve wedding for next year and I think I've found my dream dress too - from a British designer, Emma Hunt, and would love to see if you all think it is over the top -
But I too felt like a princess the moment I put it on. The back can either have the long tiny buttons or be corseted - would love your opinions when you have a chance!

This dress has a long train and I'm going to change into a lighter more grecian style dress that I bought on gilt group either after our first dance or after dinner.

  • hahaha trolls make life more fun :)
  • Honestly, that dress is a little ridiculous.  Will you be able to stand next to H for your first dance?  Can your dad comfortably walk you down the aisle?  Especially if you're 5'3.

And finding a dress in the same "style" is not the same as trying on that dress.  There are plenty of ballgowns out there that are not that enormous.
