After reading this board for a while, I've realized that my problem isn't a unique one! I love 2 dresses, for very different reasons, and I can't decide which one to go with.
When I started shopping for my gown, I thought I wanted a different colored one (non-ivory, non-white). My mom and sisters thought I should try on some traditional bridal gowns just to make sure, so I did. Of all the bridal gowns I tried on, there was only one that I loved - I remember thinking when I tried it on "wow, this is what you should feel like in your bridal gown!" but...it was ivory, so I kept looking.
this is it:
I later found a green (prom) dress that I really liked on an after-prom sale, it was the only one left, the store told me they couldn't order another, so I got it. But, when I tried it on at home the next day, I started having second thoughts. In the sunlight, it looked more reddish or copper than green - and we're having a mostly outdoor wedding! And, I didn't really think it was as flattering on me as I had thought in the store.
here it is, front and back:

I've been trying to convince myself that the green (or red? or copper?) dress will be alright, that it's normal to have second thoughts, etc. etc. But I was looking through the pics my sister took of me in it, and I guess I can't say that I
love it. I kept thinking about how I felt when I tried on the ivory dress in the pic above, so I went back to try it on again and felt that same Wow! feeling (even though it's ivory).
When I told my sister/MOH I was having 2nd thoughts about the green dress, she said that when she looked at most of the pics we took of it, she didn't think it was as flattering as others I had tried on, but since she thought I loved it, she didn't want to spoil it for me. Meanwhile, my mom is saying that while she loves the ivory dress on me, she wants to make sure I don't regret going with a traditional ivory dress.
Opinions? Suggestions? BTW - I won't go over my budget if I decide to get the ivory dress (it's on sale now, I got the green one on sale - even buying both at full price would have been within budget - but I don't want to wear 2 dresses at the wedding). A friend of mine works at the salon where the ivory dress is and assures me I can get it in time for my wedding.
Re: Torn between two dresses!! Long post...Help, please
Miss Mrs.
I started with a not so traditional color -- and had 2nd thoughts and ignored them until the last minute. I did end up getting a new dress and wish I had saved myself some agonizing
It sounds to me like you like the first dress a lot more. The shape of it with the halter and the high back makes it very much not traditional. so I think you could still have the unique feel even though it's ivory. However, don't limit yourself! it's not like these are the only two dresses in the world. You might still be able to find something that matches exactly what you are looking for.
I feel like so many other details fall into place more easily and match my overall vision for our wedding when I imagine myself in the ivory dress, rather than the green one. And...my gut tells me that FI will LOVE the ivory dress, and only kinda like the green one.
Here are some things I found that you could wear in your hair-

I could have kept searching, I love green. I will say, that as I was checking out all sorts of really fun green accessories, it also occurred to me that if you love the kelly green... well, that dress is NOT kelly/clover green. No matter what light you photograph it in, it won't look clover green.
I really think that with that gorgeous ivory dress (love the ivory dress), the clover green will really POP and be a lot more noticable as a cool color accent than it would be if you actually went with a green dress. Again, JMO.
I know that the green dress isn't a kelly or clover green. The manufacuturer calls it "hollyberry" and in any of the pics I've seen of it online, it actually looks more silvery than anything. I just don't think I want to spend my wedding day worrying about what color it will appear in any given lighting, or not loving my photos (for the rest of my life) because the dress didn't appear to be the right color.

I also would skip a necklace and do a bracelet, earrings and something in your hair.
I totally know what you mean about the color change factor, and really, I think it would not be a great fit, because of it. If any of your photos are taken in sunlight, or with a flash, you're going to end up with that copper color. The green dress also does look a bit too much like a prom dress to me, but again, just being honest.
I cannot WAIT to see your wedding photos!!
BTW - Knittibel - is that a sapphire E-ring?
[QUOTE]Thanks again, everyone. The ivory dress it is. Hopefully I'll have some sort of formal event to attend in the next year or so, because I'd love to have a reason to wear the green dress. I feel excited to think of looking at our photos now, instead of nervous that the dress might be the wrong color. <strong> We're having our wedding in a state park, so ALL of our photos will be taken in sunlight (</strong>hopefully!). BTW - Knittibel - is that a sapphire E-ring?

And that's the best reason to go with the ivory. I'm sure you'll find some occasion to wear that dress- it does look lovely on you!!
Yes, it's a sapphire! I really wanted something with color, and originally I wanted something green, my favorite color. I had my heart set on Tsavorite, or possibly an emerald, but in the end, after much research and talking with the jeweler and a friend who has a green tourmaline and after 2 years is looking to replace it with a sapph because of scratching, we decided to go with a sapphire. :)
Your ring is gorgeous! We were looking at sapphires, but FI's grandmother gave him her diamond to give to me. Down the road, I want to get a wrap or have it re-set w/ sapphire side stones because I think they're gorgeous.
I must admit the blue is growing on me. I love how it looks like a completely different color in every light. I wanted a really dark stone, but the jewler talked me out of the really, really dark ones- he said they don't make them in the larger sizes because they're not as high quality, which I kind of doubt (that they don't cut them), and I pointed out to him I wasn't looking for something to re-sell down the line! (LOL!). But in the end we finally found a stone fi and I both really loved. My original engagement ring was a peridot I had seen and admired. Paul went back and bought it and took it to Spain for the proposal, telling me it was a placeholder. I was really sad when I learned that the peridot would not hold up well as an e-ring... but I now have that same peridot in a simple pendant I wear all the time.
You got engaged in Spain? wow - that's exciting!
You should go with the white/or ivory one...you might regret it if you don't. I think that one is much more flattering on you and the colored dress might not work as well for an outdoor celebration.
We did get engaged in Spain! I did an exchange in HS, and am still really close to the girl whose wedding it was. It was my 3rd trip there, but my fi had never been, so we rented a car and traveled around for about a week, then attended the wedding, which was amazing.
When I got my wedding dress, I didnt want sparkles or glitz I wanted a rouched dress with straps and no train... I ended up with I glitzy sparkly non rouched cathedral trained dress. heres a picture
ashaffer12410- your dress is great! I love the way the beading on the back of the bodice makes a heart. There's just something about your dress that seems *perfect* for a winter wedding! I agree that accessorizing is half the fun! I'm already more excited about choosing accessories for the ivory dress than I ever was for the green/red one.
