Dress issues...

Is it just me, or maybe not? But am I the only woman who just doesn't seem to like wedding dresses? I am uber excited about the wedding, even all the planning, like, every little detail, but I just can't get behind being excited about the dress!

I have a couple of issues, first, I don't like anything sleeveless (hate my arms), or, anything strapless (who wants to worry about "the girls" falling out all day), and seems like every dress out there is both of those.

Anyone else feel me on this? Or have any suggestions?

FWIW if a strapless dress is properly fitted, it should stay put. Wedding dresses are much more elaborately constructed than your average $100 strapless dress from the mall.

Alot of stores have cap sleeves you can try on with dresses if you like that style. Then you can get them sewed on..

I know some designers also change the neckline..You just have to ask questions to find out

I feel you on the strapless thing. I feel like most of the dresses are sort of the same dress.... There's definitely beautiful non strapless dresses out there, just a smaller selection. Good luck on your search - wish me the same

I used to work at a bridal store and we had lots of beautiful styles with and without sleeves! If you really want a lot of options, find a store that sells Casablanca. That designer will customize the dress with almost anything you want (such as adding sleeves) for a minimal charge and that way the fabric, lace, beading, etc will match! For example, I love this one

I don't like strapless dresses either.  Fortunately, we have Kate Middleton to thank for the HUGE variety of dresses with straps and sleeves in shops now.   A lot of designers are using illusion necklines, lace, and sleeves.  Sure, the selection is still smaller than strapless dresses, but that just makes shopping less overwhelming.

I had no trouble finding non-strapless dresses -- each shop I went into had probably 10-12 in my price range.   And you can always add sleeves, a shawl, or a bolero jacket.  There are a lot of great dress styles and silhouettes.  Please go try some on!!!

Anyway, I feel exactly the same way... while I think they are lovely on other girls I feel like common bridal gown themes are so... not me. Like, I really don't want anything strapless, too poufy, too shiny (no satin here!), too beaded or anything with pick ups. For me, I just don't like anything that screams bridal! I have been browsing, but I'm planning on waiting a few months to buy because I'm a year out, for one, and I also want to loose a little weight. I've been scoping out things at Nordstom, Neimans and Bloomingdales, and I will probably just end up purchasing a white evening gown. Badgley Mischka has a lot of my favorite gowns.

The Nordstrom Bridal Suite @ Scottsdale Fashion Square has a decent amount of non strapless gowns.

Also, like PP said, if you find a gown you like, and it happens to be strapless, a seamstress can usually add cap sleeves. I've also seen a lot of sheer shrugs that go over gowns. I saw this Jenny Yoo at Nordstrom:

You might just have to look a little extra hard, but I'm sure your dress is out there. Plus, I kinda feel like the Royal Wedding kind of put long sleeves back on the map. Good luck!

ETA: I was just looking on DB's website and they have a whole section called "New Necklines" which I think means "not strapless." They have lots of pretty gowns ranging from $99-$1,500.

So I did go to Etsy, and I found a dress I do really like, won't fir me though, I'd have to have one made for me likely, any of the Phoenix brides know of someone in the area that does that? I'll have to check the vendors list and see if someone is listed for that kind of thing.

I can't wear strapless anything normally (I'm a DD) but my wedding dress was strapless and I had zero problems keeping everything where it belonged on my wedding day. My dress was corset-like (had the boning of a corset, but was a zip closure) and I had it precisely fitted so I didn't even need to wear a bra, and it was perfectly comfortable. Don't write off strapless just because you can't wear strapless "everyday" clothing.

Their dresses are completely customizable. They all are tea length, but she will make a floor length. You can also add sleeves to most, and they're custom made to your measurements. My friend ordered a custom dress, and she didn't even need alterations. She also has a show room somewhere in the Orange County area, if you wanted to make the drive. I also think their return policy is pretty generous if you order a standard size.
