Buying your dress far in advance question

Hi everyone, I found a great deal on a beautiful dress and want to go ahead and get it for my wedding next october (2012). Do I need to preserve it or anything until then? Or is putting it in a dress bag and hanging it up in the closet ok? Thanks!
