Mens wedding band question

What kind of band did you pick out and why? My fiance is really indifferent, and I honestly don't know anything about mens wedding bands! What's the average price? Do most go with white gold?

All help is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Mens wedding band question

  • I would just go to the jewelry shop together and look and different metals and decide from there.
  • He's the one who has to wear it for the rest of his life, so I think you should definitely try to go shopping together at least once.  Once he sees what's out there and tries a few on, you might find that he does have strong opinions.

DH wanted a palladium band to match mine, with a little bit of bling and an unusual design.  It took several trips to the jewelry store over the course of a few months to find one he liked.

Tell him to go to different jewelry stores and start looking. I think the popular thing for men right now is the titantium & tungsten bands. However, my H went with a 14kt white gold band.he didn't care for the titatium or tungsten. We both like white gold better (my e-ring and wedding band are white gold), so it was pretty natural that he was going that direction as well. It took him a while to find a style that he liked bc it is not just a plain white gold band. It has some detail and design on it.

As far as the average price, it really depends on your budget. H band was more than mine and mine has diamonds on it. His is really thick and meaty. It was about $850 at Jared's. But gold prices are really high right and just continue to climb. The sooner you buy the better.
  • My FI thought he was indifferent until he started trying them on. Then we ended up narrowing it down to a really specific width size and style, because the others just didn't look as good on him.

Next time you're at the mall, just swing him into a jewelry store. If he protests, just tell him that you're trying to get an idea of what looks good on his hand, and that he doesn't have to have an opinion at all. Chances are, once he starts trying some on, he'll get an opinion real fast.

  • My FI was indifferent as well but when we went shopping he definitely had an opinion. He ended up picking out a titanium ring that was $90.

  • Thanks everyone. I think you're all probably right...he THINKS he's indifferent! I'm sure once he sees some and tries them on he will be singing a different tune.

  • FI and I are looking at several rings by Triton and they are in the $200 range.  I had one picked out with 1/4 carat channel diamonds for around $600 but he decided after he saw it that he didn't like the bling although that was orignially what he wanted

  • Have him look and try rings on.  It really freaked DH out and was kind of an "omg this is really happening" moment for him.

Originally he thought he wanted titanium, but after trying on a few he decided it was weigh to heavy. He ended up with white gold and it's a good thing because he's dropped 3 ring sizes! (Titanium can't be resized).

    His ring was $892 w/tax.

He picked out his favorite 2 from the jeweler and then told me to pick my favorite and surprise him.
  • My FI and I went together, and he really loved tungsten.  However, I'm trying to lure him away from that, as you can't resize it (and if it gets stuck on your finger, you can't cut it off).  My FI is now thinking about white gold, plain gold, or one of the other silvery metals.  We shall see... he's going to get his ring in a couple of weeks.
  • We went together and my FI picked a titanium one. He works with his hands and wanted to be sure he picked one which would stand up to some bumps and bangs. It was the cheapest one we saw too, way cheaper than platinum but it matches mine beautifully.
  • My fiance really likes tungsten, so we are going with that!

  • We bought all 3 of our rings at the same time.  My DH just wanted a plain white gold band, not very thick.  I made him get a comfort fit band so it would be more comfortable.  I think it only cost me a couple of hundred dollars, but that was 3 years ago.
