veil or no veil??

Hey everyone! I am having a really hard time deciding whether or not to wear a veil for my ceremony. My wedding is at the beach in SC on June 19th. My dress is chiffon, and my hair will most like my pulled back (low updo maybe), definitely with a flower in it. The back of my dress has a beautiful corset and small train - so I don't want to cover it up. And since the ceremony is outdoors overlooking the beach, I am afraid the veil would be blowing everywhere! BUT there's the whole, "You're only a bride once" thing, and I'm not sure if a veil would be a nice accessory to the dress or not - and if so, what kind?

Here's a link to my dress: http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=asm3279&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=ASM3279

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Re: veil or no veil??

  • If you really want the veil, you could do a bird cage veil that attaches to your hair at one point, and just covers your face. (Amoroagain has a good picture of it)

Or you could have one that extends from the back of your hair and doesnt cover your hair and face at all.

Its really up to you, and what you want. If you dont want to fuss with it, dont have one.

  • i thought about a cage veil, but i'm not sure it would look that great with my dress... What do you think would complement the dress best? I need fashion tips here :)
  • It is completely your call, but I probably would just do a lovely flower in the hair and no veil.  I wouldn't want it blowing everywhere :).  But if you want to wear a veil, go ahead.  I think birdcages can be cool, but they really depend on your personal style.  The vintage look isn't really me, so I wouldn't have done it, but they can be so lovely on others (like Amoro, as PP said).
  • I think a very sheer veil would be lovely with this dress! You could always wear it for photos etc when you're inside and remove it for the actual ceremony if it turns out to be too windy... There are lots of places where you can get really affordable veils if you don't want to spend so much on a "prop" for pictures.

Oscansey designs and Crowning Glory both have amazing prices.
  • I'm going through this same thing - I (and everyone else) love my dress without the veil but I'm scared I'll regret not wearing a veil because "i'm only going to be a bride once". What I'm thinking is wearing it for about 20 minutes of pics to do those few "romantic" light streaming through the window shots and then taking it off before the formal pics and ceremony. I'll have a fingertip length veil for those if I do wear one.
