Military Wedding

Hi everyone!
I'm looking for advice on colors and theme.  My fiance wants to wear his Army Dress Blues for our wedding.  If you are not familiar with dress blues, the suit jacket is navy blue, the pants are royal blue and there is a gold strip down the side of them.
My concerns are:
-can the guys wear black tuxes next to the blues in his uniform?
-can we get navy tuxes anywhere?
-what should my bridesmaids wear? Contrast vs. matching?
I'm open to all ideas/suggestions/etc.!!
Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Military Wedding

  • Black tuxes and dress blues look absolutely fine together.  Dress blues are neutral formalwear, so don't worry about matching everyone else to your FI.  If there are any colors you hate with navy, you could stay away from those, but otherwise anything should work.
  • I agree with shorti--treat the guys as wearing neutrals (it's fine for him to stand out in blue, it doesn't clash), and you can pick pretty much anything you want for the ladies.
  • Don't worry about having everything match your FI's dress blues. Plan your colors with whatever you like and if you want the guys in black tuxes, that's fine, too. Your FI is going to stand out no matter what as the groom, so just try not to over think it too much.

  • My husband wore his Air Force dress uniform, which is all navy, but not a navy that is able to be matched.  I took a shoulder board with me when planning.  I had our guys wear charcoal gray tuxes and the girls wore Victorian Lilac dresses.  I went for coordinating instead of matching.  It looked nice together.  I had always wanted a red wedding, but my mom said red wasn't for spring, and I didn't want red white and blue.

Totally do the saber/sword arch.  It was so fun and very unique.  Our church didn't have steps, so we did it out on the patio, but everyone loved it, especially me.  Another thing I heard of too late is having your recessional be the song for that branch of the military.  I probably would have done that.
