What to choose?

Hello All,

I am having a wedding in Florida and will be traveling down from Boston for the wedding weekend.  I have two ways to get my dress down and can't decide which to do.  I don't want to be stressed before the wedding:
(1) Mail the Dress down from Priscilla of Boston in Boston to their Priscilla of Boston in Orlando.  Pick it up from there all pressed and ready to go
----risk: it does not make it down via FedEx, it gets damaged en route
(2) Carry dress with me on plane and once in Orlando go to Priscilla of Boston store for a final press.
--risk what if I cannot hang it in the plane? what if I have to put a dress bag into the belly of the plane and it is crushed or ruined?

I can't decide which is the better choice.  I would love your insight!
Melissa

Re: What to choose?

  • I'm a fellow Boston gal, and flew with my dress on a tiny regional jet to my wedding in Knoxville, TN. I was able to carry it on board, and though there was no place to hang it up, I was able to gently roll it up and place it in an overhead bin.

Unless your dress is massive and there's no chance of it fitting in a bin, I would carry it on with you. Shipping and putting it under the plane are both too risky. Don't worry about having to flatten it a bit to go in the bin, most dresses travel just fine if packed carefully. Mine needed some steaming, but it would have needed that anyway. It didn't look any worse after going into the overhead bin.

I have no idea how big your dress is, but you can check out pictures of mine in my bio for comparison.
  • This is a slightly different situation, because it was a bm dress, but I have to fly a bm dress down to TX, then take it with me on a bus to Mexico...when i was at DB for another wedding, I was telling them about my packing dilemma, and they told me exactly how to pack it...so, i would either go to POB or the boutique you got it at and ask them or go to any other bridal store/boutique...most places will tell you how to best transport it...then you dont have to worry about it not making it there

  • Would PoB be handling the shipping for you?  If so, they'd probably also insure the dress and pack it securely enough to make sure it can't get damaged.  And, if you're going through them, you can probably reach some sort of agreement that if the worst were to happen, they can arrange for a replacement.  It might not fit perfectly or be exactly right, but at least you wouldn't be getting married in your jammies.

I would talk a little more with the boutique and find out how the shipping is handled.  I'm sure they do it pretty frequently and have all sorts of policies in place to protect you against the unforeseeable.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
