Hoop skirt?

Has anyone had a hoop skirt slip under their wedding dress. I tried on the sample of my dress this weekend and the crinoline that was big enough to give my dress the shape I wanted was way too heavy. They suggested a hoop skirt because it would give me the right shape but not be as heavy. Just wondeirng what experience people have had.

Re: Hoop skirt?

  • I own a hoop skirt from back in the days when I worked at a Rennaisance Faire, and I kept it all these years because I always knew I wanted a ballgown wedding dress.

In my own case, the hoop was just too perfectly round, where my dress has a long train and looked better with oval under-structure.  I was very disappointed, and surprised.

But you never know, I'd say try it and see how you like it.

  • I'm quite sure you could get the same effect with a slip. I had a slip and crinoline. The slip kept the crinoline off my legs and made it feel less heavy.

A hoop seems like much, I just imagine trying to sit down with that on.

  • To weigh in on what kd mentioned, it is nearly impossible to sit down in hoops. I wore a hoop skirt with a Civil War costume for Halloween one year and could only sit by hoisting my entire skirt over an ottoman and sitting on that.

  • I've weared planty of hoops skirts since I was a kid (first one with my comunnion dress) and I'm deefinetly wearing one with my dress.
They are pretty comfortable once you wear them. Buy yours and use it at home while doing chores a couple of days and you will have no problem.
