Corset ribbon

My dress has a coreset in the back that is currenlty in white ribbon.  I want to bring more of my wedding color (lavendar or liac) to the dress so would it be wrong or ugly to change the corset ribbon to lavendar or liac?  I have included a back view of the dress from the website for visualization.

Re: Corset ribbon

  • No, I think that would look nice.

The thing you want to keep in mind is that corset laces are stiffer than regular ribbon, because they have multiple layers of material. When you lace a corset with regular ribbon from the craft or fabric store, the ribbon sort of collapses on itself and looks really sloppy. So you'll want to have a seamstress make a new corset lace that will stand up to the stresses put on it.
  • I think that would look really pretty.  Maybe you could dye the white ribbons to the color you want?
  • i think it'll be a nice touch. nothing too dramatic
  • Thanks for the advice.  Someone told me it would look "ghetto and tacky" which is not what I'm trying to go for.  I think I will buy the ribbon from David Bridal instead of an art store.
  • I think it would look fine, my dress has a red ribbon in the corset

  • If you are unsure, you can always buy an inexpensive ribbon in the color you are looking for and lace up the dress briefly.  If you like it, either dye the white ribbon, or follow Opal's advice of having a seamstress make it for you in the same color.

  • I bought two sets and dyed one of them black. I think it looks amazing! Good luck to you.

  • i think that's an awesome idea!
  • I'm planning on doing this as well. I actually was able to buy a corset ribbon off ebay.
