Reception Dress

Is anyone wearing a reception dress?  If so, when are you deciding to change?  I'm contimplating a reception dress but I want my first dance in my wedding dress and thinking I would've come out in the dress to cut the cake, but the dress I'm considering is short so my garter would show .. ugh decisions .. any help? thoughts?

Re: Reception Dress

  • I will be wearing my wedding gown for as long as I can, no reception dress for me!

  • I considered a reception dress... but then spent too much on the ceremony dress!  I would change after the important dances - with dad, with your husband, etc.  I think most people only put their garter on right before it's to be taken off, otherwise it would bother me all day!
  • This whole... Reception dress thing is just yet another way to convince brides to spend more money on a single day. I am totally anti this.. You should big a wedding gown that you love so much you wouldn't want to wear anything but IT all day, every day.
  • I agree.  I spent way too much and love my dress way too much not to wear it as long as possible.

  • I'm considering rocking a short dress for reception, too ;-) Coz I won't able to dance in my big fat wedding gown! lol

I genuinely love dancing, (I've had dance lessons for years now) and I know I won't be comfortable in my wedding dress as I won't be able to dance properly in it. I also know there's no WAY I'm gonna wanna EVER take my wedding dress off, so, I'm going to compromise. I'm looking into ways to have a dress where I can take off a portion of the skirt after photos/first dance, so it's the same dress, and still "danceable".
So, maybe things don't always go as planned... Maybe that's okay. I may be alone for now, but my baby boy is on his way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  • Thank you for your thoughts !! I did end up finding the perfect reception gown and I love both of them - and between both I still spent less than most brides under $1K for both dress WOOHOO!!  I just cannot see myself being able to dance and get down in my wedding dress the way I would like too.  It's fitted - never mind the fact I haven't even tried to sit down in it yet lol
