dyed crinolines

Hi Ladies!

I've seem some pictures posted of brides with blue crinolines or petticoats under their gowns.  I LOVE the way it looks and would really like to dye mine, however I am finding mixed answers online as to how to procede.  My crinoline is 100% nylon purchased at David's Bridal.  I was wondering if anyone had dyed their own, or had any advice.  I did ask at David's and they didn't have much encouragement for me, but did give me a few ideas.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Due to the fullness of my dress, I do have two crinolines that I will be wearing.  I would dye the less full of the two that will go closest to me so it won't show through.  I am also willing to spend the money on a third if this experiment ends in catastrophy!

Dying nylon can be tricky- it's much easier to dye natural fabric, but an acid dye may work for you. http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/9236231-AA.shtml?lnav=dyes.html

She may be your best route if the dying process seems to scary, or if you give it a go and it all turns pear shaped!

Butting in- What type of crinoline is there other than nylon? My dress comes in Friday, but I'm not sure yet if I'll need one. IF I do, I definitely want to dye it, so what material should I aim to buy (and where can I get it?) TIA!!

Go check out the DIY board, a knottie there just posted that she dyed her's hot pink and there are links to her planning site where she shows step by step instructions.

They are probably mostly nylon these days- my "natural fiber" comment is from the fact that I'm a knitter, and have dyed yarn made of silk, wool, cotton, etc- but I stay away from man-made fibers, because they're a PITA.

That said, it doesn't mean that it *can't* be done. Although if you haven't bought yours yet, I'd check out that etsy seller I posted the link to above- if you know you want a colored one, I'd save yourself the hassle and just buy a custom one from her in whatever color you'd like- she has a couple of different styles, too.
