Will Flats Look Good With a Wedding Dress?

I've always imagined I would wear heels with my wedding dress. It's traditional and let's be honest, it always seems to do wonder on a ladies figure.  But the other day I came across a pair of Vera Wang flats that are just perfect for my wedding and it made me start to think about wearing flats.  But I'm hung up on whether this will be the right choice.

Will flats look good with a wedding dress? My dress is a crochet lace, fit and flair.
Will heels drastically improve the sillouette?

Any advice is appreciated!

  • I wore flats with my wedding dress. I loved how comfy I was all day!

  • I have fashion-conscious friends who insist everyone needs even the slightest heel to have correct posture.

But my doctors and personal trainers disagree with them.

I plan to wear flats. My dress is floor length. No one should notice my shoes.
  • I don't think flats look good with wedding dresses. I'd stick with heels!
  • Flats work just fine with a wedding dress. I agree with Milkduds that you will want to wear whatever you are most comfortable in! :) I love wearing heels so I persoanlly am wearing heels, but I do plan to switch into flats for the dancing part of the night.
  • Our wedding was at home. I wore my heels for the ceremony... then they got hidden in a corner and I just wandered around barefoot. You could always have the option of both (they sell 'bridal slippers' which are basically just white ballet flats) to change if you get uncomfortable.
  • I love wearing heels, but I'm very tall and my fiance is only like 3 inches taller than me so I prefer not wearing very high heels around him...so I'll be wearing flats.
However! I'm going to wear some gorgeous heels for portraits of just me and with my bridesmaids, so I'll be able to show off my shoes and have a lovely posture :)
Vera Wang makes gorgeous flats that are totally appropriate for a wedding, so go ahead and wear them if you want!
  • My best friend was recently married in October.  She wore peep-toe flats with her dress and they were beautiful.  She was comfortable (until the very end when exhaustion set in) and they were highly "bridal" and were appropriate.
  • I LOVE wearing heels and am honestly kinda sad I'm not wearing them for my wedding, but I would much rather wear flats than be towering over my FI in pictures. We're about the same height if I have heels on. I don't think there's anything wrong wearing flats though! I just like heels.

  • I give kudos to all the ladies that wear heels everyday.  I've never been able to do it.

I hate heels.  I rarely ever wear them.  I figure--why do so on my wedding day?  I'm definitely wearing flats.  I think you should dress to reflect yourself.

You a heels girl?  Rock 'em!  Flats?  Go for it!  Converse?  Sounds great.

Chances are your wedding dress is already making you look gorgeous, so I don't think you have to wear heels to improve your look.  I doubt anyone would look at you and think, "you know, her dress is fab, and her hair and make-up look gorgeous--but too bad she didn't put any heels on!"

  • I just bought a pair of beautiful badgley mischka flats to wear with my dress.  I had bought 3 pairs of heels and everytime I tried them on - I found that I was slightly taller than my fi.  I am the "short one" at 5'1" and so I feel it's only appropriate to still be short in my wedding pictures :)  I think there are wonderful flats out there - I did see some of the Vera's and they are beautiful.
  • I've been wearing heels to work every day for a year now, and I still hate them, so I'm in the "flats are completely fine" camp.  Honestly, no one really sees your shoes unless you show them to people anyway.  A friend of mine wore adorable ballet slippers under her big fancy ballgown for her entire wedding, and we only knew because she showed us.  If you love the flats and they're comfortable, go for it.

  • I plan on wearing peep toe flats for my wedding.  I wore peep toe flats to a military ball with my gown and nobody guessed that they were flats unless they asked to see my shoes because they just saw the toe popping out of the front of my dress on occasion.

  • I'm wearing flats the whole time. My dress will be hemed so I can dance with barefeet and I will be comfortable the whole day.
Do you what you want, you're the bride!! Half the time you can't even see the bride's shoes. Go for comfort instead of shelling out money for heels that you only wear for the hour during the ceremony.

  • i dont see why you couldnt!  it may be traditional to wear heels, but these days anything goes.  i think it would be cute.
  • I'm actually wearing converse under my wedding dress because they are comfortable! It's all about what you are most comfortable in! Flats are always a good choice for a long day of being on your feet.
