Just Started Planning - Need Help with Colors

This is the dress I have picked out (haven't tried it on or bought it yet).

This is the dress I would LOVE for my bridesmaids, in this color, which they call sapphire blue.

What would be another good coordinating color?  I picture a very light lime green so I can use hydrangeas.  I also really love pearls and would love the jewelry to be pearls and to have pearls on my cake, so maybe just a cream color?  I also thought about black.  Does anyone have any advice/thoughts?

Here is what I picture for flowers.

Here is the cake I LOVE (and I luck out that a close friend does wedding cakes).  I would have different colored flowers on the top though.

Re: Just Started Planning - Need Help with Colors

  • I think green would be fine or even pink. I would look around online and also go to some of the stores that sell BM dresses and look around. Another idea is to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get paint samples of different colors and play around with it that way.

As far as your dress goes, it is beautiful. But I wouldn't get my heart set on it or anything until you try it on. I thought I would wear a fuller gown, but ended up going with something slimer. The larger gowns overwhelmed my frame. Of course it is hard to tell without seeing a pic of you, but I am just trying to help you out since you are just starting the planning process. Remember to have fun with it, its your day and you can do whatever you want.
  • I think lime green would look great with that. Some other flowers that come in those shades (in case you want to change it up for your bridesmaids, centerpieces, etc.) are button mums and green goddess calla lilies. You can of course work in plenty of white/ivory as well.

I would caution against getting too attached to a gown without trying it on. You just never know how it will look in person. Go do some shopping and see if it works out for you, or if you find something else you like better.
  • Hi I went to Dressy.com and they have lots of inspritations boards by color
  • this all looks great, the green and soft blue are lovely together
  • Our colors are an aqua blue and lime green, and I LOVE the combo. Finding our green accents (flowers, shoes, centerpieces) has been so fun, and we have gotten so many compliments on the unique color combination. (Although I honestly like the darker blue and lime better...it gives the green a little more pop).
About your dress...GO TRY IT ON! I loved a dress in a magazine, but when I tried it on I absolutely hated it. Don't commit to one style, just have fun and try on TONS of styles and shapes to see what you feel the best in!
  • Okay, so we've decided for sure on the blue and chartreuse (LOVE it).  I found those dresses online for $49 ($60 with shipping) - UNHEARD of.  I'm prepared to order them in all the sizes so they can try them on and return the ones we don't need.  The wedding isn't until October of NEXT year - is it way too early to buy bridesmaid dresses?  I just worry that I'll never have a shot for THE dress at such a great price.  Fiance says it's too soon to buy ...I really hate to miss out.  Bridesmaids could also be different sizes by then ... what would YOU do?
  • Definitely wait. It's sosososo early. Like you said, they could change sizes dramatically, they could have to drop out for some reason, you could totally change your mind on the colors.

There will be other good deals in the future, I promise.
  • There's still time before your wedding for one of your bridesmaids to conceive and give birth.  Happened with TWO of mine.  Definitely wait.  If you order this early, you might wind up spending even more on alterations than you would have if you'd waited to ensure you were getting the correct sizes.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • yellow and orange are both REALLY hot right now and would give a very modern feel to your wedding. if you want something more traditional, you could go with silver/grey, or another, lighter, shade of blue.

even if you don't want to buy stuff from the site, etsy is a GREAT resource for getting color ideas.

  • I'm 39 years old and my bridesmaids are all my age and have either gotten their tubes tied or are on BC.  None of my bridesmaids are in the position to get pregnant (although I know stranger things have happened).  I'm not the least bit concerned about that - my fear is that their body size will change in the next year (due to weightloss or whatever).  I'll hold off (even though it's killing me).  : )
