XP: petticoat and long line bra

I'm getting married in 33 days and I'm still uneasy about how the petticoat and bra make me feel. I have a beautiful Oleg Cassini ballgown and my dress fits perfect but the longline bra and petticoat sit on my ribcage and it's extremely uncomfortable. Ive got th right sizes but I'm wondering if I'm wearing it in the wrong order. Should the petticoat which sits right below my breastbone go over or under the longline bra? Do I have to wear the long line bra? I bought I bc it's what David's Bridal gave me when I tried on dresses. Is it possible to just wear a regular strapless with the petticoat? I never wear stuff this thigh fitting and even though I can breathe, I'm worried I'm gonna be miserable by the end of the evening.

  • I feel I should preface this post by saying I have never worn either a petticoat or a longline bra, and I don't know how your specific pieces fit or work together, or what your dress is like, but here's what I think:

I have no idea what order the petticoat and bra should go in, but I'd probably put the petticoat overtop of the bra for comfort sake (although it would probably look better the other way around).

That said, if a regular strapless works OK with your dress, I see no reason why you'd really need the longline bra.

  • I agree.

  • Try your dress without it and see if you are still comfortable, and the dress looks the same. I've also had friends have the bra sown into the dress so they still get the overall smoothing and support, but since it's built right into the dress, it's more comfortable.

When I got my dress they told me to put on the petticoat and put the longline bra over it. But again, I'd go with what makes you more comfortable and makes the dress look good.

I was told to wear my longline bra under my petticoat before even picking out the dress to try on. It seems more comfortable to me. Also, I bought a seperate bra from JCPenney because I bruised my ribs last summer and the ones at the store all hurt. Hope I helped :)

  • Put the petticoat over the bra..much better feeling, thats also what my consulatant at DB told me and I trust her she was awesome! I agree with seeig if there is a difference between the long line and a strapless. I have to wear a long line because I have no waist and it makes the dress look alot better. But you might be able to just do a strapless if that feels better.

  • I ended up deciding to buy a larger size petticoat. I think the elastic band at the top was what the problem was. I has already swapped the petticoat out once for a bigger size but I'm willing to wear a bigger one if it means more breathing room. As for the bra, I'm gonna try and stick with the long line for now. I'm going to look for a different strapless to have on hand just in case I can swing it. I just don't want to have to take the dress out of the bag again before the big day!
