Adding an illusion neckline to a sweetheart dress

Hello.
Has anyone added an illusion neckline to their wedding dress? I bought a sweetheart wedding dress but need to cover up a good portion of my chest (I blush all over my chest when I'm nervous instead of my cheeks). I do not want to use a bolero but want to have an illusion neckline put in. Just wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone  has any helpful advice about it.
Thanks.

Re: Adding an illusion neckline to a sweetheart dress

  • Depending on the manufacturer of your dress, they might make illusion necklines that could match the material of your dress. For example, one of the Casablanca bridal gowns I tried on came with the option of a removable illusion panel. It was really neat.

Its this dress--the illusion piece gets tucked INTO the dress

Maybe you can look into this option?

  • I agree -- i'm sure several dresses can be made to have that neckline.  Check with your dress manufacturer, and your bridal salon/alterations dept.  it could be as simple as attaching the panel on the inside using hook/eye closures, etc.
  • I'm planning on adding an illusion neckline to my strapless dress when it comes in. My dress designer wouldn't change the design but they let me order extra fabric and lace to create what I want. I'll let you know how it goes when my dress comes in.
  • I would also love to know how possible it is to add illusion necklines to a strapless/sweetheart gown. please do share your transformation. thanks
  • I too was going to suggest Casablanca as well, but looks like you already purchased the dress-- I did not choose the option myself so I cannot help you there, but they did change the sweetheart neckline to be more shaped to cover.  Check with your manufacturer or a good seamstress would be able to help you out.
