something blue?

Are you following this tradition? If so, what is your "something blue"? What about something new, something old, something borrowed?

Re: something blue?

  • I wore a bracelet with blue topaz.

My something old was a vintage clip in my hair, my something new was my underwear, and my something borrowed was my grandmother's brooch, which I wore on my wrap.
  • I think these all need to be things that you wear ON YOUR PERSON as you are saying your vows.  In other words, if you're not carrying your handbag during your ceremony, it can't be your handbag or something in it.  I also think the "something borrowed" should be from someone with a happy marriage that you want yours to be like.  In my case, I couldn't think of ANYONE whose marriage I wanted mine to be like (buttload of divorce in my family!) so I'm following my mother's advice to just borrow from someone I love dearly, and it worked out because I was offered an item I have always coveted :-)  I also don't think the items should "double" (i.e. borrow something blue and count it for both) but I think that particular opinion is "just me."

Something old = vintage/antique brooch to be pinned to my dress or bouquet

    Something new = lipstick

Something borrowed = bracelet from my matron of honor

    Something blue = garter

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • The only one I know is my something blue... it's my E ring

I haven't figured out what I'm doing for the other ones yet

  • I havent given it much thought yet, but:

Something old- a charm my fiance gave me with our dating anniversary on it. it will go on my bouquet.

something new - jewelry, dress, hair pins, etc -- im sure there will be something!

something borrowed - jewelry, accessories, or my grandma's handkercheif wrapped around the bouquet stems

something blue - perhaps have a blue ribbon on my garter, or a silvery-blue tone to my toenail polish! =)
  • My something blue is on the bottom of my shoes in swarovski crystals.  I put "I" on one shoe and "Do" on the other.

So if I truly know no happily married couples (and almost everyone coming is married) do I have to do something borrowed?

It is quite sad but I live in a smaller area where everyone gets married really young and then stay in the marriage happy or not.  FI was married at 17 for almost 11 years and was the first and only in his family to get divorced.  His ex cheated repeatedly and even though it was sad he had to go through that he has a great appreciation for me and how good I treat him and how much I love him.  It also worked in my favor being that he totally believes in marriage (even though his first wasn't great) and the "til death do us part, through thick and thin" stuff.  Everything happens for a reason and obviously all of the bad in our lives was preparing us for each other in which we couldn't imagine not having each other in our lives.

Sorry to get a little off topic but do I have to do something borrowed?  I'm not superstitious but I like wedding traditions.

    Anniversary
  • old - sixpence that all the women on my dad's side have worn in their shoe on thier wedding day (this is also completes the end of the little saying that everyone forgets about)

    new - necklace and earrings

borrowed - not sure yet, but i would like to use some sort of brooch on my bouquet from my grandma.  we'll see.  i feel weird asking to borrow something - and no one has offered to lend me anything yet.

blue - ring from my fiance that will be my wedding day gift from him.  we're not big on surprises, so i've already seen it :)

  • Something old: Great-grandmother's engagement ring
    Something new: Necklace/earrings
Something borrowed: Grandfather's handkerchief (wrapped around my flowers)
Something blue: Embroidered initials and wedding date in blue on the hemline of the gown.
Sixpence: brother is bringing two from London.  Will be on the shoe clips.
  • My something blue will be my shoes- the soles of them are blue.

  • I have all of them covered except for something borrowed. Which leads me to ask : If no one offers to loan you something, should you ask?
