mother of bride, help!

My daughter is wearing a tea length bridal dress. My dress re-designed by herself.  It is at a Vineyard in the summer.  She wants it casual in feel.  Should I wear a long dress which looks better on me or a short dress?  Guys are in navy jacket and kakhi colored slacks.
Any ideas?

Re: mother of bride, help!

  • i'm sure you could easily find some long dresses that still have a casual look to it. take your daughter MOB dress shopping, it would be fun.

    good luck!
  • Thank you, we did this weekend, I now have 4 short and 2 long to decide on, she doesn't care, I just don't want to be over dressed.

here are some pictures, I would love your thoughts, now mind you I am a plus size gal so its not so easy to find dresses.  The first one is short, my husband isn't happy about the neck line, the second one "covers" a lot and is short, but not much bling for a MOB, the 3rd one I got lots of compliments on when I walked out of the dressing room from ladies near me, it is long.  The 4th one, when I put it on my daughter (bride) saw it and it was the only one I thought she had a "real" reaction with.  The wedding is casual, father of bride in navy and khaki, I don't want to "over do."  Thoughts?

  • #1 - It's a little blingy for a "casual" wedding
#2 - I think this would look GREAT with some awesome accessories like a long silver necklace and great earrings!
#3 - Pretty! It will also look great once you accessorize.
#4 - I like this one but I think it's too fancy for the wedding you're describing.

Which one do YOU feel the most comfortable in?  Does your husband have a preference?  I'm also plus size so I have my areas where I'm more self conscious about...if yours happen to be your arms I'd stick with 2 or 3.

    Great dresses!

That was the one I picked over the 2 short dresses, however, I am more "hidden" in the other one.  Oh my, my.....

I feel most comfortable in #2 and #4, both hide a lot and are most forgiving.  I don't really want to be in tight undergarments in early "hot" august in Michigan.  Thanks for your thoughts.
  • Hard to tell what looks good because your not in the dress. The most important about finding the best dress is you in it. They all look really nice. Post pic of youin the dress, then we can help you pick.
  • I like number 4 the best! It reminds me of the dress my mother wore in my wedding. It's a great silhouette on most people, so I'm imagining it looking great on you. If you keep the rest of your accessories simple, I think the dress would work great. Also, you said your daughter seemed to really like this one. Wear the dress that makes you feel the best and are most comfortable in.

  • Two fits the bill for casual and comfortable. If you have nice arms, then four pleases your daughter. These are totally different looks so I can't decide between them.
  • Another vote for #4. The jewel detail on the shoulder and fabric is lovely :)
