How much time for hair?

Morning ladies! I hope this is the correct board for my question. I just booked the hair stylist for me, my mom, and my 4 bridesmaids for the day of the wedding. She needs to know a time but I have no idea what to tell her! We need to be back to my parents' house to do our makeup by 2pm and the salon is about a half hour from my parents' house. We have first look pictures at our venue at 3:30. How much time did you guys allot for this? Thanks!

Re: How much time for hair?

  • It took my stylist 2 hours to do just my hair.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I have myself, 6 bridesmaids and my guest book person and I was told to allow 3 1/2 to 4 hours.  I would definately over-shoot the time.  It would be better to sit around hair and makeup done when the photographer gets there rather than scramble and not have everything the way you want it to look for pics.

  • Depends on hairstyles you go with. My mom with her short hair was done in about 30 minutes. But one of my BM went with an half updo so it took them approx 1 hour & my niece who went with a cute updo took approx 1 hour. I have short hair also but because I was the bride and we also put in my headband & veil, I was in the chair for over an hour (it normally take me 5 minutes to do my hair on a regular day). So I think it depends on how complicated the hairstyle is that each person gets (simple updo in a bun vs something with lots of curls, etc) determines the amount of time. Book appointments early, nothing wrong with having some time to sit around after makeup is done & having some lunch & relaxing compared to running around late (trust me, I scheduled things too tight & ended up extra stressed out)
  • depending how many stylist be ready for an early morning as a stylist myself with my boss we generally start anywhere from 6am to 7am to get the brides/bridesmaids out by noon if theres 4 of them it will most likely take anywhere form 1 hour-to 2 hours depending on style, if its up or down
  • Will there be a stylist for each bridesmaid or will they have to wait on each other?

If they each get their hair done at the same time, it'll take about an hour to do theirs and 2 to do yours.

The brides hair always takes more time because it has to be perfect. MIne took 1.5 for hair and I did my make-up in 20 minutes.
  • I had 4 BMs and mysef and it took about 2.5 hours to do all of our hair. Mine was about 45 minutes.I would talk to your salon and see what they recommend.

  • You have seven ladies including yourself getting their hair done and you have to be back by 2 PM to get your makeup done and it takes half an hour to get there? If there will be two stylists I'd plan on getting there around 9:15 AM. That gives you three hours to get hair done and 45 minutes to get back home in case of traffic. Whatever you decide to do I'd be sure to be the 4th person to get their hair done. That way if there is a time crunch your stylist won't have to give you an easier/less complex hairdo to make sure that everyone gets done on time.
