Cups sewn in vs longline vs braless?

I have a few months before I need to get alterations done but I'm doing some research now. My dress is a sweetheart neckline (strapless) and I am a 34D so I do need to worry about support. I've read that sewn-in cups can sometimes show up in pictures? My dress is silk organza and has some ruching at the top and I believe the bodice has some boning in it. I'm unsure if I would be comfortable going braless and also I do not want to have to worry about a longline bra creeping up above the line of the dress all night. What do you think?

  • Do you have a corset or a zipper closure?  I have my cups sewn in, and with my corset back it is definitely enough support (although as a 34A, I don't really need a lot).

I think if you have a corset & a good seamstress, you'll have enough support with sewn in cups without them being visible in photos.  If you a zipper, it might not be as tight & supportive.

My mom bought something like this bra/waist cincher combo thing at Nordstrom's and she loves it, and she's also pretty busty.  Gives support, pulls your waist in, and you don't have to be worried about it falling down - I helped her try it on with her dress, and it was definitely NOT going anywhere =]

  • It is a zipper back with fabric buttons. No corset. Do you remember the brand of the bra from Nordstroms?

  • I had cups sewn in and I'm a 34C.  My dress was a zipper back with boning.  The boning gave me plenty of support.  I chose cups for two reasons: 1) I get hot very easily so I wanted the least amount of clothing under my dress and 2) I didn't want to have to worry about a seperate bra sliping down or peaking out from the top.

I suggest getting a bra that you like for your dress, leave the tags on, and go to the alterations appointment and see which way you like better.

  • I had cups sewn in and I'm a 34 DD. I went with those because it was cheaper and easier than finding a bra to fit and also wouldn't fall down.
  • Since your a large cup size, i'd go with a longline corset bra. The bra will give you the support and shape you need and keep you from spending more on alternations for your dress which doesn't guarantee support because it doesn't have boning right?

I'd go to dillards or vs and use a good coupon and invest in the bra. You can always use it later, cups sewn in your dress you can not.

Just my way of thinkin' lol hope it helps

  • What does the seamstress recommend?  My sister has DDs and she wore a strapless gown to her wedding with cups sewn in. She was comfortable and didn't pull at it all night.

I've yet to find a great strapless bra but one of my friends swears by Nordstrom for bras!
