David's Bridal a disappointment!

I have had the most terrible experience with David's Bridal.  If I would have been able to I would have bought my dress elsewhere, but with planning the wedding 2000 miles away from where I love it was my only logical choice.  I would NEVER recommend any bride to do business with David's Bridal!  They wouldn't take back or exchange a bride's maid dress that wasn't fitting correctly, they verbally insulted my mother, they didn't want to do the discussed and pre-paid altering services.  The shoes weren't dyed the correct color as ordered.  And the list goes on and on....I even went so far as to contact the regional manager with my complaints to no avail.

Re: David's Bridal a disappointment!

  • They sell your information to all kinds of vendors and time share type people as well. I wont be going there unless my bridesmaids want to. I also met with insulting people there. Terribly disappointing.

  • The service you receive at David's is going to be store specific. I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. I've been in a few weddings and have never had anything but positive experiences with them, but then again, I've heard people, like you, who have not had such a great experience. Hopefully they'll correct the issues you have and will make your planning a bit less stressful.

  • My David's Bridal negative experiences were at 2 different salons in 2 different states. 5 separate times with sales people and the alterations departments.

I am glad to hear that not everyone has had a bad experience there, but all the same, I would not recommend DB due to their customer service alone!
  • Agreed, David's varies drastically by location.  I have a David's that I go to whenever I need anything; there's one consultant who's a doll and always remembers me, they did a great job on my alterations, and I've never had any problems.  SSIL went to a DB about 10 miles away and it was a nightmare, and she very nearly didn't get her dress in time.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Location is everything. With all retail there are some locations better than other locations to stores.
  • The manager from the DB near me called yesterday to ask me how my appointment from last month went.  I told her that I had made my appointment a month in advance and when I arrived they had no record of it.  We had to wait around for a consultant and I barely even got to speak to her because she was so busy.  I pulled all but 3 dresses myself.  It just wasn't what I had in mind.  I felt like just another person in a crowd.  I had already gone to another private bridal shop that morning and got one on one attention.  They only shedule one bride at a time.  I ended up getting my dress from there and not from DB.

I've been to 2 totally different DB locations miles apart several different time w/o any issues.  I can't imagine having a bad experience b/c my personality...haha I would have come unglued.
I guess all the different retail locations really are totally different, but the management at those store where you've had bad experiences have failed, I'm sorry for your bad experiences.
Word of mouth is the worst thing for a company, but from my several experiences I would recommend DB to anyone.

  • i'm so sorry you have had this experience it really depends on the store, I have had nothing but a positive experience with them regarding my own dress. hopefully this will continue I'm being fitted next week .
  • I've never had a personal bad experience, but I've heard all kinds of horror stories. I haven't even stepped foot in the one that I is near me to look at dresses, even though I've seen a couple that I liked. The store in my town (and I don't live in a tiny place) is junky and needs updating terribly. The standard faux leather green couch is dirty and has rips all in it. The carpet is stained. Having worked in retail and currently working in marketing and brand management image is a lot for me. In opinion the way a store up keeps itself is going to be a reflection of how they treat their customers. Since the company as a whole pays no mind to updating its look (i.e. green capet, green couches and the tacky hearts in their logo) made me automatically assume that their dresses were cheaply made and outdated. I was actually quite suprised to see a few in there I actually liked.

I will say that the head alterations lady is a doll at ours, but when it comes to my dress I don't to take any chances the with the things I've heard. Ive gotten a few bridesmaids dresses and I've found it really depends on who you get. One fitted me in correctly and ordered the size too small, it worked OK but I had to wear spanx and not breath for most of the day.
  • I had the same expierence at David's Bridal, it was awful! They messed up one thing after another, I would not recommend them at all. I had a bad expierence at two different locations and no apologizes at all. Very dissapointed!
  • My Future wife got her dress from DB, and when i went with her the first time we had a lot of good times, although, EVERYONE berated me for going in there with her.  (Yeah yeah, tradition and superstition, whatever) I've been in the formalwear business for a while, and the turnover at DB is pretty high.  They rarely get anyone who REALLY enjoys helping brides find that dress.  Its just a job to most of the people working there....  its the problem you get with most big chains.

  • Sorry you had such a bad experience.  I bought my dress at DB, and I've bought several bridesmaid dresses there in the past.  I've always had a good experience with both the people on the floor and in alterations.  I'm sure it just depends on location, as weith any retailer.
