Who Pays?

I just started looking at tuxedo rentals...do the groomsmen usually pay for this themselves or is it something we are expected to cover? Can you tell me what you are doing - FI thinks each guy should just wear a black suit but our wedding is quite formal so I don't think that is the best option....what's the general consensus, oh wise knotties??

Re: Who Pays?

  • I think in most instances, the groomsmen pay for their own attire, just like bridesmaids.
  • The groomsmen should pay for their attire, but your FI should talk to them beforehand and ask what kind of budgets they're working with. That way, he doesn't pick out a tux that someone can't afford.

  • The groomsmen usually pay for their own.  We're picking up the tab for at least one, possibly two of ours, because money's tight for them.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • A lot of rental places have deals where the groom's tux is free if all the GM rent from the same place.  If money's tight with your guys, maybe you and your FI could split the cost of his tux (assuiming he can get it free) and use that money to contribute to all of their rental fees.  It might not be much, but the GM might appreciate the extra help, assuming it's feasible within your budget!
