Quick rant...

So, very few people have gotten hotels in our block. I understand that it's not cheap and I really don't care if they go elsewhere to get a reservation. Doesn't really hurt me that much. But. My aunt asked for the information for the hotel block from my mom. My mom couldn't remember so she asked me. I gave it to my mom who forwarded it back to my aunt. My aunt then copies both of us on the email and says "That is out of our price range so we had to make reservations elsewhere." Yes, I understand that you have a price range. Make the reservations elsewhere and be fine with it. No need to make me feel bad about the price of the hotel rooms. GAH! Just had to rant for a second. :)

Re: Quick rant...

  • Your aunt didn't have to call you out on the room being more expensive than she wanted to spend. You can't be worried about what everyone can afford to spend. Hotel blocks are just suggestions of where to stay. No one is required to stay at the hotel you suggest. Your aunt's comment was not very nice, but I would just let it go.

  • I agree, just let it go. I'm sure she didn't mean it to come across in a rude way, although I understand why you were bothered.

I'm also curious how much it cost. We had some ppl book outside of the rooms block, only to save $15, but now they will have to take cabs to get to the hotels (since we are having bus services to the ceremony only from the room blocks). They are basically going to blow those savings on transit, but whatever...

  • I am also curious about the pricing of your hotel block....

It's really annoying to me how obsessed people get with hotel blocks. They are just set up by the bride as a suggestion to try to make things easier for guests should they need a recommendation on where to stay, but people act like its the end of the world that our main hotel block filled up....which is why we set up four additional blocks. Ours are all in different price ranges, though, which is why I am curious about why your aunt was complaining about yours :)
  • I'd try to let it go too.  I'm sure she wasn't trying to be snotty about it.

I'm the bad bride who didn't block hotel rooms for my out of town guests.  FI and I talked it over, and we thought it would be best just to suggest a couple of hotels on our wedding website that cover different price ranges.
  • Let it go.  Hotel blocks have given me no end of headaches!  I'm so glad that I'm over having to deal with it.  I've posted a list of other hotels in the area on the wedding website and that's all I'm doing.

But I also agree that your Aunt should not have done that to you!  But if it makes you feel any better, my family would do the same thing!

  • I'm not holding it against her by any means. It was more just a "Grr...." type of statement. :)

Our hotel blocks is $93 for a waterfront room. We aren't having the reception at the hotel but it is walking distance. We had a really low RSVP rate (just over half) and about 1/2 of the people coming are local and the other 1/2 is staying other places. Like I said, I really don't care where people stay and I'm not going to hold it against her. Just thought it was tacky!
  • Wow, that is a very reasonable hotel rate, for just about anywhere. I wonder what kind of a hotel the aunt ended up choosing.

  • Wow, that is super reasonable!! Hotel rooms at our hotel are specially priced at $249/night for our guests, normally $400! A lot of hotels in my area require 2-night minimum stays too which sucks. San Diego in the summertime! grr!!

  • I agree!  Super reasonable!  We were at $100 and $140 for the two we booked and that's cheap for my area!  Wonder what they're expecting!

  • thats a really good rate...that is what ours is for both hotels...
  • That is a really good rate!!  She is nuts!!  Let her sleep with the co*k roaches!!  Ha ha I love that TK won't let me write the word co*k
