Re: Sash or No Sash?

  • I am personally not a fan of sashes. I think most of the time they take away from the silhouette look.
That being said, that is the perfect shaped dress for a sash. Anything that naturally cinches at the waist is perfect for a sash.
It really comes down to personal preference. When I was trying on THE dress in store, another girl just happened to be picking up the exact same dress that she had ordered, and she was putting a sash with it. She looked great, I just didn't want one.
  • That dress is beautiful! I think a sash would look nice on it but it looks fine without one too, which isnt much help haha. Like PP said, the silhouette would look nice with a sash =)

  • Thank you girls! It is a very tough decision - i'm torn between having one and not. I tried one on in the store, but it was $500 (crazy expensive!) - I absolutely LOVE my dress without one. Maybe I should keep it simple and not take away from my dress.

What do you all think about a veil? I'm also torn with that.

  • That is a lot for a sash, you're dress definitely doesnt need it so I would save the money. I was looking at this dress that was rather plain without a sash, I liked it without the sash, loved it with - but the sash was over $400 & brought the dress over my budget so I didnt end up getting it.

I think a veil would look lovely with that dress.

  • If you did a veil it would have to be a longer one going back. I have a similar front to yours and every birdcage veil that I LOVED made the whole thing look too busy.
But you will definitely have to try on some with your dress to see how you like it. I'm actually going to end up going veil-less I think because nothing really 'went' with my dress.

What a gorgeous dress! A sash would completely take away from the beauty of it. No sash.

ETA: But yes to a veil. I didn't wear one, but I think a nice fingertip veil would look lovely with that dress.

  • You girls rock & you just saved me a lot of money on a sash :) I have been debating for the longest time.

I love the idea of a veil. I've loved veils since Mandy Moore in A Walk to Remember (does anyone remember her beautiful veil?)

    Anyways,
I'm wearing my hair long, curled & with extensions - I tried on a longer veil that had lace scallopping that matched my dress. It was $200 + Is that normal pricing on a veil?
  • Do you have a picture with the sash?  What color?

I agree with PP, this dress shape on you is perfectly suited for one.
  • I think that if you did a sash I would do a plain satin fabric sash.  Anything with embellishment or bling on it would not look right with the dress.

As far as the veil, if you are buying the veil through a bridal store then yes, $200+ is a very normal price.

  • What about a thin ivory sash with some bling? There's lots of options on Etsy. I think it could give your goregous dress some sparkle, but just my bias opinion :)
  • Your dress is so beautiful!  I vote no sash.
  • I normally love sashes, but I dont think one would go with this dress.

is the dress lace?  if so, i vote no sash.

i think the right kind of veil would look nice, but i suggest trying them on with your dress.  in terms of price: i'm super cheap and woulnd't pay that much.  i'm actually wearing my grandma's wedding dress and making a birdcage veil out of the crinoline that was underneath.

Beautiful dress!  What designer is it?

I vote either a sparkly belt (instead of a ribbon sash) or none at all.

    Yes to the veil!

  • A lot of girls here got their veils from Valuveil and they're like a tenth of the price of the bridal store veils with no real discernible difference in quality.  http://www.valuveil.com/wedding-veils.html

  • Your dress really works either way, however I vote sash just because you can take your dress that one step further.

You can add an colored sash or even a sparkly one just to make your gown even more personal.

By the way, the gown is GORGEOUS!
