First Look/ Keeping Clean

I'll be doing first look and all our other photos before the ceremony, outdoors in NYC. I know the hem of my dress will get dirty. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with how dirty the dress will get (preferably in an urban environment)? Any suggestions to minimize the grime or do a touch up on the dress right before the ceremony?  The bottom of my dress is organza if that makes a difference.

  • It will get dirty, though it will probably not be as noticable as you think. I did an outdoor shoot for my bridal portraits and I stood/sat on a white sheet for all of them, with it tucked under the edges of the dress so it wouldn't show.

  • We did first look photos outside.  Most of the dirt wan on the underneeth crinoline, not the actual dress. I just picked it up when I was walking.

  • I like pp's suggestions.  Your seamstress should hem and bustle your gown so it won't drag on the ground when it's bustled.  Any grime will get on the underside and really shouldn't show too much.  If you keep your dress bustled while you walk around and put a sheet or towel under your train you should be okay.  Especially if you're concerned about it your photographer will be conscientious and find less grimy areas to take pictures!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Hmm our photographer has a photojournalistic style so no standing around on a sheet and posing. Oh well a little dirt isnt the end of the world
