any diy 'treatments' to make regular earrings hypo-allergenic?

I really need hypo-allergenic earrings, but fell in love with a pair that are not.  I'm curious to know if anyone has been successful with anything that might help my ears tolerate these earrings better?

thank you!

I've coated them in clear nailpolish and it works well, but usually I try to stick with the hypoallergenic ones, especially if I am paying alot for them.

It all depends on how severe your reaction is.  I'm allergic to anything with nickel on my neck, arms or ears, for whatever reason, it doesn't affect my hands.  If I wear a necklace with nickel for more than a couple of hours, I will have a rash all over my neck the next day that will last about 24 hours.  If I wear earrings, my ears won't really get irritated unless I wear them for more than 24 hours.  If wearing them just for a few hours will cause major problems, I agree that you should go with something else, but if your ears are more tolerant, then I would go with the clear nail polish and just wait till the last possible minute to put them in and then take them out as soon as you can.  The earrings I'm wearing will cause a reaction with my ears so I will be coating them with nail polish and won't pop them in until right before we start pictures.

Depending on the type of earring, a jewler might be able to convert the post or earwire - can you link to a picture?
