is it to soon to buy a dress!!

Ok i'm getting married June 2012 i know it's two years away. But i found a dress and fell in love with it. People say i'll change my mind and the styles will change then but i don't think the the styles will change that much...what u guys think??

Re: is it to soon to buy a dress!!

  • I wouldn't buy a dress that early.  Tastes changes, new styles come out, you'll more than likely keep looking at dresses.  My thought is if you like it now and it's still available in a year (and it's still the one you want) then it's meant to be.

  • I would def wait but keep a pic of it in your "wedding book".  I bought one in Jan, changed my mind in May.  Thank God Im getting married in Sept 2010 or I'd change my mind again, guarenteed!

  • Agree with PPs.  I'd definitely wait.
  • I would wait.  I found my dress 15 months out and waited until about a year out to order it.  Just keep an eye on whether it's being discontinued.  The worst that could happen is that it will be discontinued, you won't like any other styles, and you'd just have to find a similar dress or find it used.  Usually there will be other lines that carry a very similar dress.
  • definitely wait. i'm getting married aug 2011 and started looking for a dress a couple of months ago but then stopped because i didn't want to buy anything until september. and i was afraid i would love something and it would be discontinued in the fall. as well new styles may come out. if you buy a dress 2 years you run a high possibility of changing your mind closer to the wedding.
  • Sorry - just wait - have fun trying on tons of dresses and in the end if the original one is still available you'll know you got the right dress.
  • Wait--like you said, styles won't change that much between now and then, and that means that there will still be very similar styles available when you are ready to buy. And if you change your mind in the meantime, you won't have already sunk money on that dress!
  • I say wait. I am one year out right now and have changed my mind twice. I just ordered my third dress becasue I started looking way too soon. I bought the first two spur of the moment impulse buys and decided later I didn't like them (thankfully they were both on clearance) I probably tried on about a hundred or more dresses before I found the right one. Hopefully nobody else gets cought in the clearance trap like I did.

Posted by jagore08[/QUOTE] i agree. i think its early simply because you will still be looking at magazines and things and what if you see another. i would wait & if it is still available later on then buy it.
  • Start looking at pics to get an idea of what you'd like, but 2 whole years seems like a long time in advance to actually buy.
  • You can look now.  My wedding is that far off and I already have ordered.  Fell in love with a gown and wanted it, did not want it discontinued.  That happens a lot and I am so happy.
  • One of my friends bought a dress that she loved way in advance.  A few months ago she found a second dress, bought it, and wore it for her wedding in April.  What happened to the original dress?  It's in her closet with the tags on it waiting to get sold on e-bay.
  • I am not getting married until July 2011 and I purchased my dress in August 2009. I had gone out with my mom and sister trying on dresses and tried this one on.  I couldn't get it out of my head and kept going back to the salon to try others but always went back to my dress. When I spoke to the owner of the botique gave me an outstanding deal on the dress and I just couldn't say no.  Keep trying on dresses but if you keep going back to that particular dress then you know it is the one.
