pave set stones prone to falling out?

I read in another post that pave set stones are highly prone to falling out, is this true? I have the Tiffany Novo engagement ring which is one large diamond with pave set diamonds on the side. Should I be worried about the side stones falling out?

Re: pave set stones prone to falling out?

  • Pave set diamonds tend to be more prone to falling out than other settings.  With Tiffany, I believe you can bring your ring in regularly to be checked.  I would go to the store and ask them their policy on check-ups, replacements, etc.

  • I have heard the same thing that they are prone to falling out, particularly if you had to have the setting sized down.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Pave stones are definitely prone to falling out. If you get your setting constantly checked it should at least be covered if a stone is lost. If you don't keep up with that kind of thing it will then fall on you.

The Tiffany Novo is a beautiful ring, congrats!
  • Pave diamonds don't have big prongs like other setting styles so they can dislodge much easier. Tiffany should have some sort of diamond guarantee and inspection timeline for you to follow. Jewelers recommend at least getting inspections every 6 months on your jewelry, this way if something is loose, a prong is broken, etc it can be fixed before you lose a stone.

  • My engagement ring has pave set stones - I have been wearing it for 9 months now and one stone has fallen out over this time. I'm quite careful with my ring always take it off for showers/swimming and for any cooking where it could get dirty etc. so was pretty annoyed when it happened but had been warned it was more likely with my setting. Thankfully the jewellers replaced it free of charge as it was under their warranty and I have had it checked according to their warranty so as long as you do this you should be fine.

    Gorgeous ring by the way!
