Opinions please, went & tried on dresses (pics)

Hello everyone,
I went dress shopping today and I (of course) found TWO dresses that I loved.  Help me decide.  Our venue is the Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas (just in case you want to keep that in mind for atmosphere, I would!) lol  Both dresses are the same basic shape but one is more plain and simple and the other more decorated and elegant.

Please note that neither of these dresses are in any way altered so I know that when they actually "fit" they will look better, AND I've lost 120 lbs so until August when I have surgery they look pretty horrible! haha

Thanks in advance for the advice

  • I definitely like the 2nd one better but they are both pretty.
  • Congratulations on losing 120 lbs, you look great!

I prefer the detail/sparkle on the first dress.. both are very pretty though.

  • Both are lovely on you, but I also love the Allure gown more. :)
  • both are pretty, #2 wins though!
  • First of all CONGRATULATIONS on losing 120 lbs!  That's quite an accomplishment and you look fantastic.  :)

I think they are both lovely on you, but the first one looks like it has lace which feels more soft and romantic in my opinion, so that's what I would go for.  :)  Either way though you will look gorgeous!

Congratulations on your engagement and weight loss.  I love #2 on you.  If you like sparkle, it might be worth going to another bridal store to see if they have a dress like #2 with some bling.
  • I think number 2 is more flattering to your figure. And you'll sure want to show that off after that weight loss. Congrats!

  • Thanks guys.  I don't have a lot of family or close friends here with me so I really love the fact that I can get opinions from all my knottie friends.  I had the consultant take pics so I could see them myself and get opinions.

Its still up in the air for me.  I like the way the second one makes me look like I actually have a waist but I think the first one will do that as well once its fitted better.  Like I said they're both so similar in shape, I really like them both but I have to say that I had the first one as #1 on my "wish list" before I went in and I'd never even considered anything like the second one, I guess I thought it was too plain, plus it has pockets (still can't imagine what I'd need pockets for in my wedding dress - - not like I'm gonna be hauling my cell phone or something around hahaha!).

I'm gonna see how many more people weigh in, right now its split up the middle with you guys too!

    Thanks again!!

I like #2 better.  I think that the detailing on the bodice is very flattering, and I like the fabric on the skirt better than the overlay on #1.  #2 looks richer and more elegant to me.
  • I think I like #2 best although thery're both lovely on you
  • I don't mind talking about my weight loss at all.  Honestly I just changed my life.  I never dieted, not for one day.  I ate less and I ate better.  And I added (very little I'm ashamed to say) exercise in.  I'd walk 2 or so times a week for maybe 30 minutes.
I eat what I want but I eat less of it if that makes sense.  If I want cake I eat it but I don't eat a lot of it.  Just enough to satisfy my cravings.  And I started cooking fresh food.  No more boxed anything, at first I thought it would be overwhelming because it would take more time but it didn't.  I have very few meals that I prepare that take more than 30 minutes.  I buy fresh ingredients instead of their boxed counterparts. And I drink a TON of water.  Like at least 2 gallons a day.  At first I thought I would wash away but after about 4 or 5 days my body started craving it.  And when I say "water" I don't mean just plain water, I mean decaffeinated tea sweetened if you like with Splenda, or those Crystal Light mix things. Anything not carbonated, and I still had the occasional diet soda.  Like I said I didn't cut anything but processed food out.

I lost it pretty slow, its taken me almost 3 years to lose this much.  But I've NEVER gained.  And I'm still losing but very slowly now.  I'd like to lose another 20 lbs. and I know it will come off but I'm in no rush.  My arms look like old lady boobs (ha!) but everything else is ok, I guess since I lost so slowly.

I think the first time you deprive yourself of something its the first thing you crave then you're miserable.  I love food.  I love to eat but just like with any other addiction, moderation is the key.

  • #2! I wish my dress had pockets because I am a lipgloss FREAK!!! lol

  • Oh! And I forgot to add to my weight loss saga my thoughts on your thoughts on the dress. haha I like the simplicity of the second one too but I'm wondering if its too mainstream, if that makes any sense.  Like I feel like 10 million other brides are wearing that same dress right now, and while honestly both are that way (how can you avoid it with certain dresses??) the first one seems to be a little more unique.  Does this make sense?  Am I thinking too much into this?  I'm new to this whole wedding dress thing (and honestly I'm the WORST shopper ever) so I'm trying not to make one of those decisions where I'll look back in 10 years and think "what in the world was I thinking?!?! lol

  • I love the first one.
  • I really love the first one! I could be biased because my dress is a Casablanca but I think they make beautiful dresses :)

  • PP I agree on the Casablanca thing. And they alter to fit you more than the other designers.

  • now I'm wondering how either of these dresses would look with a simple illusion birdcage veil??  Opinions?

  • Heh.  I like the first one more.  We're making this difficult on you.

And congratulations on your weight loss.  That is truly an amazing accomplishment.  You must be SO proud.
  • I love the overall look of dress #2, but I love the top of dress #1. I think in your pics you can't go wrong with dress 1 but dress 2 looks amazing.
  • I think the Allure looks beautiful on you.

I love number 2 (Allure)!!! So pretty! :)
  • I like number 1.  I think the pleating on number two throws me off, like the skirt it too big.   But they both look great on you.

  • Your Casablanca dress looks SO MUCH like my Casablanca dress (more pics in my married bio).  Soo... of course I'm going to pick that one!
  • Congrats on the weight loss!!!

I think they are both pretty, but I like the second one a lot more!  It looks great on you all ready!!
  • I like the bottom detail of the first one but you look lovely in both!
Flowers and jewelry and veils, oh my!
  • #2 is absolutely beautiful! Much more flattering and elegant.

    Congratulations on the weight loss!

  • The 2nd dress better accentuates your torso.
  • #2 is my favorite - coming from another Allure bride :)
