April 2012 Weddings

buying plane tickets

We're at 99 days!! Offically just broke the 3-digit mark!

Heres where i need advice/confirmation:
FI and I are buying plane tickets for 4 of my family members in Neb (to go to the wedding in FL). We were going to buy last night, but apparently a hold was put on his cc for a (valid) international charge. N-way, they put a hold on his cc that we wanted to use to get the rewards points. So we figured all that out and got it taken care of....then went to purchase the tickets for the 20-something time.  A warning came up saying that since we're not flying, we'll have to take his cc and id to a Delta keyosk to have them verify his info, before they'll release the tickets. Has anyone done this?  or even heard of this?  I guess i've never bought tickets for someone else before....that this is all new to me.

This morning we talked about it and decided to just do it, FI went to get tickets again...and they went up $100 each.  :(  URG - someone at work said Mon & Thur are the worst days to buy & Tues/Wed are the best.  Either way, we're looking at doing this next week now.

Re: buying plane tickets

  • I dont know anything about buying tickets for other people but when we booked our honeymoon tickets between the time i got off the phone with the travel agent and the time she booked they went down like $50 each (worked in our favor that time!) but she said it fluctuates all the time like that its the airlines. GL
  • Tue/ Wednesday are the best times to buy tickets. As for buying tickets - I have often put my flights on my parents cc and that has never happened. I remember it happening with a hotel awhile back (like a sb) but I got that worked out over the phone. My mom actually put a delta flight on my delta ae card and that didn't happen either (to help me gain points for my hm flight). I'd call them.

  • I've never heard of this before and between myself, my FI, and my parents we have used each others cc's for different people's flights.  In fact, I'm doing this for my mom in a couple of weeks.  As long as the ticket says their name and they have an ID they should be fine.  I don't think using reward points makes a difference either.  But I would call them and double check b/c that sounds sketchy.  Also, tuesday nights are the best times to buy!  My FI and I bought tickets once a month for over 2 years, so were experts now! haha  I had a BM buy hers 2 weeks ago on tuesday night and I alerted another BM that they were low (coming from same place) and she wanted to double check with her BF and the next morning they went up $150!  I tried to tell her....GL!
  • Update:   We checked tickets again this afternoon and they had lowered to the orginal price that we found yesterday...we we purchased.  This time - no extra screen with us bringing ID to the counter.  Just the normal stuff about the travelers bringing ID.  Hmmmm  Maybe b/c they thought it was a fraudulent charge?  Who knows...but all is good and my grandma will be at my wedding (in 99 days!)!!  YIPPY!!
