Sewn in cups

I am a 36D bride and do not have a corset back dress.  I want sewn in cups to my dress.  Any advice on if this is the right choice, what to get and WHERE I can order these (online) or do I have to go to bridal store.   The store I picked up my dress from is rather  far away and having a friend alter.  Any advice would be great!   I wantto be confortable on my big day!!

Re: Sewn in cups

  • i just went to my first fitting yesterday. they mentioned that they don't recommend C or more to have sewn in cups... so you might want to keep that in mind, though having sewn in is really comfy, and im getting that for myself since im a B. u might want to ask if ur friend who's doing alteration can do that for you?
  • You can get cups from a fabric store. You shouldn't have any problems with getting a D cup.
  • Does your dress have a low back or some other reason why a regular strapless bra wouldn't work?

FWIW, I'm similarly busty and I already think strapless bras suck.  I think sewn in cups would be even less supportive.  This would be my absolute last choice if I couldn't make any other bra work.

  • They're very supportive. They're thick foam like a pushup bra, and once the dress is altered to fit, it's just like having on a bra that can't possibly slip down.
  • I hadn't even thought of that option.  I'm a 36D and has resigned myself to the corset bra that will be tight and uncomfortable all night.  But I do plan on talking to my seamstress and getting her advice.  If your friend isn't comfortable with that portion of the alterations, maybe you could take it to a professional seamstress for suggestions.
Not having to wear a bra would be amazing and probably much more comfortable than those corset ones.

  • I am a bustier bride and between my dress having all kinds of ribbing in it and sewn in cups, the woman I'm having alter my dress thinks that will be enough support and recommended not trying to find a strapless bra.
