Fixing the colour of my crinoline?

So, I got my dress the other day, and am absolutely in love.
Its exactly what I wanted and the quality is lovely

I also ordered a separate nylon crinoline from the company I ordered the dress through.  They don't make the crinoline's themselves, they purchase them through another company and its usually a 10-12 week turnaround time on these.

I ordered my crinoline in turqouise/aqua blue.  It arrived in seafoam/mint green.
It does show out the bottom of my dress and doesn't even remotely match the rest of my decor/bridesmaid dress/groomsmen attire so I cannot use it as-is.
I've sent an email off to the company I bought it through yesterday morning and have yet to hear back.
I sent an email off to my seamstress for her suggestions and she really didn't have any other than letting the company deal with it and said that trying to dye it myself would be "an exercise in frustration"
I'm not sure I have time to get this fixed even if the company will do anything, so I'm debating dying it myself.

I've seen tons of DIY tutorials on how to dye your crinoline and it doesn't look hard, but I'm kind of freaked out about trying it because the only shade of RIT dye I can find is "royal blue" and I'm working with a crinoline thats already dyed

Any suggestions?

Re: Fixing the colour of my crinoline?

  • If you dye it royal blue, you will likely get a royal blue outcome. If you're ok with that, go ahead. I'd wait to hear back from the company. Where'd you get your dress??

  • You could try bleaching it first, to remove as much color as you can before you re-dye.  Over-bleaching can damage the fabric, but you'll only be wearing it once, so you'll probably be ok.

How long do you have until your wedding?  Unless you're in a real time crunch, I would wait a while and continue trying to get in touch with the company.

I ordered it through Dolly Couture http://www.dollycouture.com/

ETA - Wedding is June 4 so not sure I have time to ship it back to California for Dolly Couture to try to have the company they purchased it through rectify it.  Hopefully they'll get back to me soon though!
  • If it were me, I would start the search for a new crinoline just incase, and assume I'd be able to return the first one. Have you looked on etsy? Many sellers will send you fabric samples.

  • 1. I would wait to hear back from the company and demand a refund or a new one be sent overnight in the correct color. 2. I would start looking at buying a new one from another company. 3. I would not use the royal blue dye if didn't want it ot turn out royal blue.
  • personally I would try to work with the company or fine a new one. June is plenty of time unless you need serious alternations on your dress in which you'll need your crinoline early.

I just googled and found this site.

    http://www.sterlingandpearls.com/petticoat_crinoline.htm

    then I found this one

    http://www.tutusforwomen.com/crinolines.htm

on the first site they say it is aqua but then on the second it says mint. I see the trouble your facing. I say see what the company will offer and start looking for one in a colour that is just right. Good Luck.

Edit: this site has more clour choice http://www.pettiskirtstyle.com/teen-adultpetticoats.htm
  • Have you tried going to a fabric store? Im putting orange crinoline under my dress and I got a ton of it.. and cheep!
PS- your dress is adorable! Its going to look great with a touch of blue!
    Anniversary
  • Problem solved! Dolly Couture has been amazing to deal with
The sales rep responded and apologized - their "turquoise" is actually a greenish colour and not very blue at all.  They've rush ordered me a petti in the right colour so I won't have to worry about trying to dye it myself!
