Marisa Bridal. le sigh.

Hi all -

I've been scouring the web ever since I tried on this frikkin' fantastic Marisa lace gown with an amazing folded/pleated organza (I think) train, sweetheart neck, in champagne.  Alas, the store prohibited photos and I'm left with a spotty memory.

I know Marisa design images are difficult to come by online.  Does anyone have any sneaky (legal) hints for me to help with my continued search??  I've tried preownedweddingdresses.com & oncewed.com.  No luck there.

TIA!

Did they make a card for you at the store? At most bridal salons here they create a card for each bride, writing downs style numbers she liked and specific reasons why. Perhaps youcan call and have them pull your card?

A lot of bridal salons won't tell you the style numbers, because they don't want you buying it from a different store or online for cheaper.  They keep those style numbers in their files, but won't give them out.  Same reason they don't let you take photos.

Wow, really?? the two stores I went to this weekend let me take photos AND filled out a card for me with the style (I already knew it anyway because the dress was one I had printed out from the designer's website). I didn't like the price on the dress at the first store so I decided to keep looking. Only to run into the same dress at the second store the next day for $500 less. Sold.

Yep. It's a crapshoot.  3 out of the 5 salons I went to let me take pictures.  One of the ones who let me take pictures, wouldn't give me the designer name or style #.  Two gave me all of the information and let me take pictures.   Luckily, I had done a ton of online research, so I told the consultant which designer it was when she brought some dresses to me.  She brought one out and said "oh, this is a NEW designer.  We just started carrying this designer and it's a brand new design".   I responded.  "Um, that is an Alfred Angelo and from a collection from 2 years ago."  And I knew they had been carrying Alfred Angelo for years.  So, I was irritated when she tried to lie.

Some say "no pictures", but don't complain a whole lot if you do take photos.   One salon had a "no photos allowed until after your purchase" sign, but there were girls in the fitting rooms taking all sorts of photos.

But, yeah, it isn't uncommon for them to deny photos and not give you designer information or style information.  They want you to buy from them and not have the opportunity to leave the salon and go try to find it cheaper.
  • Thanks for the responses.  My search is still coming up short.

I'm going to give it a go and call the store to see if I can get the style number.  Worst they can say is no.  I was talking with another shop who carries the line and she told me they would beat whatever price I'm being quoted if I can just get them the darn number.  And then the shop competition began with "well...if they don't give you the number, that kind of tells you what kind of store they are" and other assorted gossipy nuggets.  Good times.

I just want to make sure I'm not being ripped off and the pricing in the original store is fair.  I'm not trying to hire a personal seamstress to recreate the dress!
