Eeep! Am I crazy?!

I fell in love with the Watters Torreon first... but it was way out of my budget. I tried Maggie Sottero's Rhianna Royale as a consolation prize, but it was too princess-y for our outdoor garden wedding.

So I found this WToo on the Watters website last night.... OMG. Love. The kicker is, is that its from the Fall 2010 collection, and none of the Watters salons in my area have opted to buy a sample of this particular dress. If I buy it, it'll be WITHOUT trying it on. Am I crazy? Have any of you ever done this?

What do you think about it?

Re: Eeep! Am I crazy?!

  • Gorgeous dress!  I agree, I'd want to try on that particular shape to see if I liked it on me or not.  There were definitely dresses I loved in pictures, but didn't love on me.  Are you able to expand your geographical search for the dress at all?
  • I will join you on the crazy train!  I already had a dress picked out and had a major change of heart.... and then I found THE one!  I drove myself and my FI crazy trying to find it, but it was a custom style and not available ANYWHERE but the internet.  I didnt bat an eye on ordering without trying it on -  I do know my body type and what types of dresses are flattering on me.  I ordered my dress two sizes larger, as with this type of dress I would want to have it altered to fit me perfectly.  My silver lining is, I can return the dress for a full refund if I dont like it. What is the refund policy like?  If the company allows for returns, would you have enough time to return the dress and start looking for a new one?  I wish you the best of luck with your decision and in finding your dress!

  • I fell in love with two different dresses in pictures.  One of them just didn't do anything for me, one of them wasn't nearly as nice in person.

Try it on before you buy.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I've called everybody within a 6 hour radius. Grr. One bridal shop promised me they had so many dresses that I'd "forget all about this one". Kinda irked me.
  • I fell in love with pictures of so many dresses...aaaand only one of those dresses looked any good on me. With the return policies being so insane when it comes to wedding dresses (if there's a return policy at all - which there isn't with mine!) I'd DEFINITELY try on first.
  • the back of that dress is stunning. hmm i would be hesitant to buy it without trying it on. if you really love it try some dresses on that have a similar style to see if it's right for you. i know a lot of girls say that they found dresses online but when they tried it on they didn't like them. but i found 2 dresses online and went to try them on i loved them way more then anything the sales person picked out for me. even still though i don't think i would buy a dress without trying it on first.
  • Really pretty. I liked Torrean as well.
  • Can you have an authorized retail store measure you and you order through them.  They may have more 'power' with the company to either keep as a sample or send it back..but if they measure you right then they will get a sale..My cuz bought her wedding dress like this.  It came from Spain! She loved it and the store got a sale it otherwise wouldn't have.
  • I agree with PP, I love that dress, I think it's gorgeous and it looks really similar to one that I loved (same back and fit). I tried the similar one on and several variations at my bridal shop and it looked terrible on me. I think to pull off that style you need to be somewhat taller with broader shoulders so that it sits properly. I am neither.

I didn't vote because I  think that if you love it and can't track it down I would take the picture into bridal stores and try on styles that are close to that, it may eliminate it altogether for you or it may be a perfect style for you but at least you won't be ordering it blindly. Then you can stop day dreaming about this dress, or start thinking about whether or not you should order.
2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!
  • Contact Watters directly and see if they know offhand if a local store has that dress.

Or maybe they will be having a trunk show somewhere near you and will have that dress.

  • I say go with your heart.. If you feel you want to buy it ask what their return policy is if you don't like the way it fits.. if they don't allow you to return it .. ask them when they plan on buying a sample dress.. and wait to try it on if you can..

  • I bought my dress over the internet at Jcrew.com.  I went with my gut and ordered the dress a couple sizes too big for alterations.  I think if you're in love with a dress and they have a decent return policy go fo it!

  • I would NEVER buy a dress without trying it on.  You never know how it will fit or look on your body.  Everything looks spectacular on the models in the photos.  If you can find a dress that is very close by the same designer, then *maybe* but even then I'd be worried.  Especially since most dresses are non-refundable.  What if you hate it?
  • I'm purchasing my dress without trying it on.  No one around me has a sample.  I showed the women at the bridal shop a photo and they grabbed a few dresses that looked similar and fit almost exactly the same.  Although i'm still a little nervous about not trying the one I want on I know that the shape is right for me so I really can't go wrong with it.
  • I have ordered a dress that I never tried on [no shop in any surrounding state had a sample]; HOWEVER, I tried on sooo many dresses and knew what looked good on my body and what I wanted. I also ended up getting to try on a dress from the same designer that was very very similar to the dress I ordered.

So try on lots of dresses to see what you like or if you fall in love with another dress. And try on lots of Watters dresses to make sure you like the designer and the fit. See if you can try on similar dresses. If you end up not finding any other dress you love and you like that style on you, then order it. But I would wait until the last minute. Keep looking around until then... there were definitely quite a few dresses that I loved online, but hated when I put them on me.
  • That looks like the perfect dress for an outdoor garden wedding.  It's gorgeous.  when are you getting married?  maybe by the time the stores start ordering in their fall collection you can find one that carries it and try it on then if it's not too late.  I wouldn't by it without trying it on first.  Hope it all works out for you and you somehow find this dress!
  • I'm getting married in April. I think our local Watters retailer is going to throw me a bone and request a sample! Hopefully the sample gets here in time for me to order if I love it.
