Ivory gown?

Is anybody gettinga non-traditonal color of dress? There is a dress I love that's light gold (ivoryish). I tried this one and white one before and loved both but the gold is so beautiful and goes perfect with my skin tone and the colors of my wedding. Is it horrible if a wedding dress isnt white?

Re: Ivory gown?

  • If it looks great on you and you love the dress than go for it!

  • Ivory isn't a non-traditional wedding dress color.  Ivory, pale gold, champagne, eggshell, off-white...  They all photograph as white, and the only people who can tell the difference are graphic designers and brides.

I've seen several colored wedding gowns: blue, red, silver, pink, gold, black, you name it, it's been done, and looks fabulous.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

</div><div>Not at all...  My dress was champagne and photographed ivory.  And there was a lot of white (snow) in many of our pictures.  It looked great.  </div><div>
</div><div>Sounds like you've found the perfect dress if it looks great with your skin, etc.  Oh, and my BF wore a dress that was golden ivory and it looked fabulous.  Go for it ;)

  • I don't think many people wear stark white dresses. Most seem like they are ivory or diamond white or candle light or light gold. Those colors seem to compliment skin tones better.

  • As PPs said, ivory is considered a normal bridal dress color. Go for it if you love it! My dress was ivory and it photographed lovely.

  • Mine gown is ivory as well.  White looks horrible on me.

  • My gown is Ivory as well.  I tried it on in white and in ivory, and I loved the ivory!
  • I tried on a couple of 'diamond white' a true pure white, and it looked awful on me. The owner of the bridal salon told me that she only sells a few true white gowns per year, as it is very harsh looking on many skin tones. So if you like the golden ivory, I would say go for it.
  • I love Ivory and chose Champagne for mine- in silk.  :)
  • From what I hear ivory is like the new white. I ended up ordering a white gown where I bought my dress but the woman told me that most women mostly buy ivory now. I'm sure you look great in it!!! Congrats on finding the onee!

  • My dress is ivory! I noticed last night that it's actually quite darker next to my white veil (oops!).
    I say go for it!
