Trouble with color swatches

I am having a tough time picking out my BM dress color because I can't look at a 2 inch by 2 inch piece of fabric and envision the whole gown.  I am looking at Bill Levkoff's 530, which is tissue taffeta in taupe.  Initially, I wanted gold but am afraid it's just going to wash out the girls. I thought the taupe had kind of a gold shine to it but one of the women at the bridal shop said it didn't It's SO hard to tell! 
Has anyone else used Bill Levkoff's camel, gold, or taupe tissue taffeta dresses??
