First dress fitting!

Hey ladies, any suggestions or advice for first dress fitting?
I'll be sure to bring my shoes and undergarments - which brings me to another question. Do I really need anything special for under my dress? I have a small chest so I think they can just sew cups in and I'm pretty in shape so I'm not worried about needing a shaper. Has anyone else just done undies under their dress? I feel like it's uncommon but that's kind of where I'm netting out...! Is that ok???

  • I did "bridal" undies underneath and nothing else... cups sewn in took care of the top.   I brought my veil and headpiece too so I could see how the whole outfit looked.  Don't be surprised if the gown doesn't look quite right as it will be fitted to your body.  Have fun - it's so exciting to put on your dress for the first time!

  • I just wore undies under my dress.  I was pretty in shape as well for my wedding (boy what a year can do LOL!) so no shaping items were needed.  Of course it really all depends on the style of your dress and comfort/confidence level.

Since this is your first fitting this is the time to really try on your dress and see what needs to be done.  You may go in thinking you don't need a bra but then after talking with the seamstress one may be recommended.  Same goes with shapewear.

I would also suggest having a friend or family member come with you.  I know I wish I had someone with me.  Sometimes it is hard to see what they are doing with the bustle so it is sometimes best to have another set of eyes.

My first fitting was the morning after my hair trial so I was able to sleep on it and see it all together. To that appointment I brought my earrings, a veil I was considering and of course my shoes. I also did my makeup a bit heavier so I could get a picture of the whole look together. To my second and third fitting I just brought my shoes.

I'm c-cup chested and my seamstress sewed in cups and with the corset back it was plenty of support for me.

I also brought a BM and my MOH to two of appointments so they could learn how to do up the dress and fasten the bustle. The third appointment was really just a check to make sure that everything was done to my liking so no one came with me and I was able to take the dress home that day as no other alterations were needed.

Edit: I will be wearing lace panties under the dress in a boy-short style. I found the boning and the shape of the dress gave me the figure I wanted and since the dress is warm enough as it is I don't want to add extra layers with foundation garments

  • <div>From working at a professional dry cleaner (Hallak Cleaners), I learned a few different tricks. Each gown needs to be treated differently. If you don't feel comfortable with just cups, you could possibly add some kind of boning for extra support...depending on the gown's shape and fabric. For all fittings, it is important to bring all undergarments, shoes, headpieces, accessories. We suggest this so you get the best fit AND also get an actual picture of what you are going to look like on your big day. Hope this helps!</div><div>
