Military Uniform?

Hi all :)

One of my fiance's best friends in an Army Ranger and we aren't sure what he should wear in our wedding. Is it customary for groomsmen who are in the military to wear their military uniform or will it be odd since everyone else will be in tuxes, including my fiance...

Just wasn't sure what the protocol was on this...

Re: Military Uniform?

  • Not odd at all. He can wear his dress blues or a tux. Your FI and he can discuss and decide.
  • If your FI isn't in the military then I would suggest that the groomsman just wear a tux like the rest of the guys. Most of the time, my husband would much rather wear a suit than his uniform.
  • The groom decides what the groomsmen wear.  Generally, if it's not a "military" wedding (B or G not in the military), then nobody wears uniforms.    But if you guys are okay with him wearing his unifom, then it's perfectly okay for him to do so:-)

I have seen groomsmen wear their dress blues but I personally think it draws the attention away from the groom when another man is dressed differently at the altar.
  • He decides and the groomsmen should match in formality. My H was in his Navy Dress Whites, so the guys were all in tuxes to match formality. Had any of the GMs been active duty we would have been fine with them wearing their matching dress uniform instead of a tux, but we didn't have to cross that bridge as all were civilians.
