Alteration disaster

I went for my final fitting last night at Alfred Angelo and is was horrible! I put the dress on and it was way too long! The shoes I bought for the dress (which I wore at my original fitting) is an 1/2 inch or so. The seamstress kept asking me if I can buy new shoes - my response - only if you are paying for them. They were $65. They kept telling me they couldn't do it in time and gave me a really hard time. My wedding is Aug. 4 and I am limited on time. The seamstress husband took out $65 out of his wallet and said here - buy new shoes. He also made sure I was aware that they were losing money on my dress - not my problem. So, I took the money and bought new shoes. I went from 1/2 inch to a 4 inch heel. Quite the difference. When I called the manager today she would only reimburse me a $100. I feel I should have been reimbursed the full amount of the alterations. I will rock my new purple heels and try to sell my old shoes! I am just hoping I will be able to walk in them. Lol. I just wanted to warn other Brides!

Re: Alteration disaster

  • Your alterations were AT an alfred angelo store and the seamstress' husband was there?   I would not have walked out of that store with $65.00 for a new pair of shoes. I would have made them fix the dress.    Are you even used to wearing 4 inch heels?  If not, those might last 30 minutes on your feet.

  • This makes no sense to me, if your fitting was last night there she can very well take up the hem again, unless this is a lace dress that needed brougt up at the waist.

She should have fixed the problem, not handed you money for shoes.

Sorry you have to go through this, make sure you take some sandals for dancing!

  • Yes! I think he works with her. He was the one that was taking down the measurements.

She wouldn't do it. She was going on vacation and it was impossible. I was so frustrated that I just took the money and left. I should have fought more for what I wanted. I have worn shoes that high in the past. My goal is to keep them on for the ceremony and part of the wedding. I am going to buy a platform type flip flops to wear after.
  • The dress is all lace at the bottom with beeding. She told me it took her 3 days to do what she did.
  • I wouldn't have left the store, honestly.  I probably would still go back to the store today, and tell Alfred Angelo to have another seamstress do it, and give them the $65.00 back.  Four inches is a LOT.  Even if you buy platform flip flops, you are going to have 2 inches of dress dragging on the ground, at least.

If this was at an actual Alfred Angelo store, I'm sure they have more than one seamstress on staff.
  • I would but it is an hour away and we are under a  tornado watch. And, they are the only seamstress on staff, which I don't trust anymore!
  • Well, you could call the store back and tell them they need to find you an indepdent seamstress and they need to cover the costs.   Your options are going to be limited because you took that money and left the store.  But, I would seriously get on the phone with the manager of the store and start negotiating.  If you are timid or not good with negotiations, I would get the assistance of mom or dad or someone.  There is no way in hell I would have walked out of that store.

It seems insane to me that an AA store only has one seamstress.  Those stores are usually SO busy.

I realize you are short on time, but four inches is a tripping nightmare. (In my opinion)

You have almost 2 weeks. I feel like that's plenty of time to fix a hem. Maybe you should take it somewhere else. It seems to me that if you paid all that money to bridal shop they should do what you want. i think you're being way too nice letting them get away with that.

I don't know if they are franchises or corporate but I would still find a number for a corporate office and complain about this store. No one likes bad publicity and if they have a fb page post something there too. Someone will defo call you back then.
    Good Luck

It says if we fall short of expectations please call. Call them, they will do something

This is what I was thinking. I about started a war over  my fitting at DB when they only had one seamstress during peak bridal season. They sent the other one home because of "labor costs" and "overtime"

  • My friend had a horrible alterations experience at Alfred Angelo. So she took her dress to a private seamstress and they got it down for a reasonable price, quicky, and did what she wanted. I would maybe do that!
