HELP! The Color of My Bridesmaid Dresses Are NOT The Color/Style I Wanted

Hello!
My fiance and I are getting married May 18, 2013 and our color scheme was pinks(shades of fuschia), purples, with some blue. I went shopping with my bridesmaids and I was really pressured into having them buy a dress/color that I didn't really want to get. We finally just got the swatch and it is on the scale of pinkish red (it photogrpahs really red) and I don't know what to do!

Here is a picture of the dress:

Here is a picture of the dresses I wanted them to wear:

Now I am not sure what to do about the theme and color scheme of the wedding, I really don't like the color at all and think it will clash with fushcia and purple. Two of my bridesmaids haven't bought their dresses yet, so is it wrong of me to buy the other bridesmaids new dresses?

Thank you!

  • Yes it is... and not fair on them. honestly you shouldnt have agreed to a dress if you really hated it. I do really like the dress though, it is similar and you cant blame them if they are more comfortable with straps... not everyone likes strapless and the BM should have a large say in it since they are wearing it, and especially if they are paying. I think you should just take a step back and leave it be, I think the colors will work fine and all eyes are going to be on you and not critizing the bridesmaides dresses.
  • Since you said that you would buy them,,,then no, I don't see a problem with that. I think the dress is pretty. I think it'll work fine with purple. Do you need fuschia? Can't you use this pinky red instead? it's very pretty and I think the dress style is really cute.

  • If you are 100% going to cover the cost of all your bridesmaids than yes it's ok to choose a different dress.  I personally like the dress the bridesmaids picked better than the other one because I think more people would be comfortable in it.
  • Here is what you should do.

if your first two bridesmaids paid for the dresses, the second two bridesmaids should pay that same amount for the new dresses, so no one is being asked to pay more than another.

and then you would buy the two girls the new dresses.

honestly, list them on TK classifieds or put them in consignment shop you might get something for them!

  • Did they pay for the dresses yet? Usually you get the swatches before you pay.... but if not, is it too late to get a refund?

It's your wedding and so I think you should be able to do what you want. I think you should have spoken up beforehand if you really didn't like it instead of letting them get their way.

Another option is if there is a different color you like in that style of dress. What about doing the plum or rose glow color instead? I understand the strap thing since it's a pain to have to be pulling your dress up all the time. But ultimately, it's your wedding, so it's your decission.
  • My BM dress colors didn't turn out the way I wanted (more hot pink than fuchsia) so I reordered it all in my shade of fuchsia.  I did pay for everyone's dresses though.  But in the end, you'll have these pictures forever and you want to be happy with them.
  • Thanks for the suggestions!
