Plus sized Gown - fustration

I have seen this dress online Style: SWG9902  , in ad's, and I loved it! I couldnt wait to try it on. I picked out many dresses that I liked, all being compared to this one. I was so fustrated to find out that even though David's Bridal, which advertises the dress and is the only one to sell the dress, does offer in plus sizes. BUT..and a big butt here (pun intended) you have to basicly buy the dress to try it on. At the time I went two stores had it in a plus size, fl and ga. Then if you try it on, and for whatever reason it doesnt look good, well store credit only. Seems like every store I went to had the same small selection of styles for plus size try ons, all basicly the same. I have found a dress, but I didnt have the "ah ha!" moment I really wanted or hear about. I know its just a dress, I know I will look great. But im still kinda sad over the disapointment. Can anyone relate?

  • That's strange, I was able to try on every dress in the store. Is it a special edition dress or something? I'd be super leary about buying it before being able to try it on.

I had a rough experience in the beginning because none of the sample sizes fit me properly. It was really discouraging.

Then I asked my local board to recommend salons that carried larger samples, and designers in my price range, and I found a great shop that had many lovely samples that I tried on with no problem. I bought a really flattering dress and I was very happy.

I would ask your local board to recommend salons with plus-sized samples. I am sure that someone can help you.

  • I definitely know how you feel.  It took me 3 months to find a shop within 5 hours of my town that carried a variety of plus size gowns.  If there are certain styles or certain gowns that you like call around and tell them what you are looking for, they may just carry something similar that you will like.  Also, some shops are able to rent dresses that you may be able to try on at a later date.  It's worth a try- good luck.
  • I can totally relate!!! I knew I didnt want to spend a ton of money on a dress so I only tried on dresses at Davids bridal - with a lot of time calling around and driving here and there I have been able to try on most of the dresses i wanted to try - yet still can't try the one i am leaning toward in the size i want to try and there were two that no store in my tri-state area had for me to try.  What I found most frustrating is the limited selection of dresses with straps/sleeves - I just dont feel comfortable in strapless. I am getting married 10/10/10 and am feeling the pressure of running out of time to pick a dress. I have narrowed it to two dresses - i really like both dresses but I also did not have that ahha moment and am also disappointed. Part of me wishes I had gone to other shops. I also keep telling myself it is just a dress and i truly believe i will look great in either dress, i just wish I had that no doubt this is the one feeling.  On the other hand I am exhausted thinking about this and I really want my wedding to be about things that are much more important than a dress so i am really looking forward to just making the decision and moving on.  Good luck to you and know you are not alone!
