Serious lacking in groomsmen attire ideas. SERIOUS.

Am I the only one on the planet who has a groom that doesn't want a stuffy suit/tux?!?!?  Seriously, I feel like there is zero info out there for the alternative groom, that is not hipster/vest/suspenders.
Why oh why is it SO hard to find a groom and his men in dark jeans or black jeans and blazers?  WHY?!  There is nothing out there and I've been looking for months for good examples to show my groom.
Any ideas or photos anyone!?

  • Maybe jeans aren't the best option.. but my wedding (in Sept) will be informal. The males will be wearing khaki slacks and white shirts. Nothing too fancy. I am not 100% if they will wear jackets but most likely not.

I think it is because most people feel that jeans are not appropriate. I agree with CMGr... look at the formality of your dress. I think less formal than a tux or a suit is fine, but I don't know if I would be a fan of the jeans thing.

I also know that my groom is a PITA about some things and doesn't see the value in formal wear AT ALL, even if he is standing next to me in the most formal gown I will probably ever wear. I feel like him wearing his dress blues for our wedding is one of the very few "perks" of him being in the Army and I thank my lucky stars that is what he has chosen to wear. Otherwise, I really have no idea what he would show up in, but I'm sure a suit or a tux would be a struggle. Maybe just talk to him about at least wearing khakis or dress slacks. It already sounds like a good compromise.

Anyway, I googled it and found a few informal groomsmen options I thought were nice. I did even find one with blazers and jeans, and I think it looks okay.

I think it just really just depends on the feel and formality of the rest of your wedding. I think the last picture I posted was a good example. It looks like a summer afternoon, her dress is simple and not overly formal, the bridesmaids are in sundresses. I think I would have wanted the GM is button down shirts maybe with the sleeves rolled up, but I think the polo shirts were okay, I just think they should have at least tucked them in. Good luck!

  • Now, I have quite possibly one of the most casual DHs in the entire world. Before meeting me, the man didn't even own dress clothes or shoes. Even he understood that our wedding day required formal attire for him and the groomsmen.

It's really not too much to ask of a grown man to wear a suit or at the very least a dress shirt and dress pants instead of something they'd wear out to a bar.

Brief aside, as I'm Judgy McJudgity over here. Do black jeans even exist anymore? Hello? 1993?

Probably because jeans are not appropriate attire for a wedding.  Even if your wedding is a backyard BBQ.

Why not have your groom and groomsmen where dark slacks, a nice button down shirt, tie and blazer?  Pretty much what you are looking for except that slacks are a bit more appropriate then jeans.

  • I have the exact opposite problem - my fiance wants to get his suit custom made for the wedding. He priced it out and its going to cost almost as much as my dress.  I can't really say no because honestly he will probably wear it again whereas I will only wear my dress once.

    He loves getting dressed up!
  • I've seen a lot of weddings (usually barn/ranch weddings) where the men wear jeans. I think it is a little silly, but as long as it fits the venue and your guests know they can dress casually, I think it is fine.
