how long did ur dress take?

I'm a bit of a procrastinator, wedding is in mid Oct and yet to go shopping. Just wondering how long your dresses took from ordering to arrival. thanks

Re: how long did ur dress take?

  • In my opinion, you need to go shopping, like right now.   I ordered my dress in February for my September wedding, and luckily, it arrived in less than a month.  However, I was having major dress regret, and I went shopping again in March, and two of the dresses I looked at were not going to be available by September.

I also ordered a BM dress from David's Bridal in March and it has not arrived yet. Expected delivery date is mid-June.

Unless you are totally ok buying off the rack and not very picky about your dress, you probably need to get going within the next week.  With 5 months, you may end up having to pay rush fees for some designers.
  • I know, i need to kick myself in the ass, thanks
  • I ordered my dress in March for a late October wedding, and the salon said that that was already cutting it close. Bear in mind that you need to factor in time for alterations once the dress arrives.

Start calling around and make some appointments for this weekend if you can.  Once you get started, hopefully, it will give you the motivation you need!

My dress will take nine months to come in and about a month for alterations.

On a time crunch try Alfred Angelo, David's Bridal, Group USA.

  • My dress took 3 weeks, but it's from David's Bridal.
  • PS.  I was considering buying a tea length reception dress from David's Bridal last week... and they told me the expected delivery date was August 15th-Sept 1st.  And, that's DB, who usually can get dresses in pretty quick.

    Go shopping girl.
  • You need to start thinking about buying off the rack or ponying up the money for a rush fee. A lot of brides who have bought their dresses at DB have had them show up ahead of schedule but you can't count on that.

Get your butt to a bridal store, immediately.

  • I work at a bridal store and we reccomend girls order their dress 7-10 months before their wedding to play things safe in terms of getting the right size, color, etc. and to leave room for alterations. Based on that timeline, you're already late. I'm betting if you want to order a custom gown you may have to pay a rush fee.

  • I was told my dress would take 4 or 5 months to come in, but it only took about 2.  I ordered it at the end of September, got it in early December, and then it just hung in my closet awaiting alterations until a few weeks ago.
  • My dress took 3 weeks to come in it was a Mori Lee, but it was also a new season and I think I bought it before it got popular.

Mori Lee as well, took about 6 weeks to come in.  Ordered in late March for my September wedding.  I was heavily in procrastination mode as well.

My dress came in 2 weeks after I ordered it but the original quoted window was 4 months. ordered in Jan said it would be in Apr I did get my dress from david bridal and its a popular style in the same size of their sample, but without a train. when I went in to alterations there was a bride trying to order the flower girl dress a couple of months before the date and they told her couldn't order it in time because their system cannot guarantee the order will be filled in time but they told her its just the estimate it would come in a while lot faster. But the closer you are to the date the rush fees will apply.

  • I ordered mine in the beginning of January and it just came in a little over a week ago.  I did have extra length added, so that added to the time.  Better to be safe than sorry, though!

  • Definitely go shopping as soon as possible.  My dress was ordered at the end of June last year with a quoted delivery of 6 months, but because of a problem with the manufacturer it actually didn't come in until the 8 month mark.

Depending on what you choose, you're most likely going to have to pay for a rush fee, or you'll have to buy off the rack.  You need to allow about a month for alterations, possibly 6 weeks if its something that needs a good bit of changing, so that puts you at a delivery of the beginning of September at the absolute latest, meaning you need to find a dress with a 3 month delivery window.

    Good luck!
  • Ordered my Maggie Sottero gown in March and it's expected to arrive in August. Go shopping!!

My dress took 5 months, just like they estimated.  Plus 1 month for alterations (it was prom season so they were swamped).  I got a Maggie Sottero.
