Buying Dresses Online

So... I fell in love with a Mori Lee wedding dress. It's style #4611 from the Blu collection. Found it online for under $300... I have to money to buy it now, but my wedding isn't until September 9, 2011. So here are my questions:

Is buying online safe?
Is it a good idea to buy online if I can't try the dress on first?
If I order it for what my current size is, but I lose weight... would alterations be hard to do and/or costly?

EDIT: The site I found it on is: http://www.dressactually.com, but then I noticed two other websites with the same exact pricing and page layout, just different website names: http://www.comdress.com and http://www.dressgodess.com

I'm concerned these sites might be low quality knockoffs of the dress I want... what do you ladies think?

Here is a link to the dress for anyone curious to see what it looks like:

Re: Buying Dresses Online

  • First of all you didnt name the site you may be using to buy this dress online, and there are a lot of knock off sites that only show you the designers dress, but you end up getting cheap material, and shoddy workmanship.

Use a reputable place like Pearls Place. There are also a few other sites mentioned in a few threads below yours. This question has been asked at least 3 times in as many days.

As to your other questions I wouldnt buy a dress unless I had tried it on, what looks good on the model may not looks good on your figure. You may be surprised at what flatters you in the end, set an appointment and experiment. And buy for your size now. It's not a good idea to buy a smaller size hoping you'll lose weight. And it's easier to alter down a size, then try to go up. Good Luck.

  • I agree with everything kd.joseph said. I would be surprised if that $300 gown is authentic, and I think you should try some things on before settling on a dress. The dress I wound up with was nothing like what I thought I'd want.

In addition, bridal sizes and street sizes do not always coincide, so you'll need to compare your measurements to the company's size chart. Figure out which size corresponds to each of your measurements, and order the largest. If you lose weight, most gowns can be taken in about two sizes without a problem, beyond that things get trickier but not impossible.
  • Always check the prices at Pearl's Place or at netbride and then compare.  They will have the best prices.
