David's Bridal Exchange?! HELP!

I just went to pick up my dress from David's and I noticed that the pleated sash was twisted on one side. I didn't think this would be a big deal to fix, but the woman in alterations told me that she would have to take apart the whole middle of the dress to do this, and that it was really the manufacturers fault.

They said they will call me on Monday to tell me if A) David's alteration people will be able to fix it or B) They will have to order a new dress. If they have to reorder, it could take 15 weeks to get here and the wedding is 14 weeks away. AH!

First of all, I don't really want the David's people touching my dress bc I have heard bad things about their alterations department. But if they have to reorder I'm al little scare dthat some other defect will arrive. Do you think I would be able to say, "Can I get a different dress, one you have in stock so you don't have to order it?" I'm okay getting a different style dress, but I know that David's has a "no return" policy.

Has anyone exchanged or returned their dress from David's Bridal? If so was it difficult and what did you do to make that happen?

Thanks... I'm a little worried!

Advice, please!

Re: David's Bridal Exchange?! HELP!

  • I know that they always say 15 weeks for any orders.  Well they didn't have a choice my MOH and I argued until we were blue in the face because they screwed  up her size we very clearly had ordered a size 6 in her dress and they ordered an 8 somehow.  It came in and we were livid and they said it would be another 15 weeks.  By this point I was pissed and told them they will have it in 8 maximum and I didn't care if they had drive to a location that had that size in stock themselves.  Well they eventually cowered and did a rush order at no extra charge.  I'm not normally a confrontational person and I'm glad my mom came along because she was able to talk to them sternly but calmly whereas I would have cowered or flown off the handle.  Best of Luck and I hope your store will do the same
  • What you could do is have your David's Bridal store call around to see if anyone else has your dress in a different size and have them over night the dress to you. My store was going to do that with my dress.

    Good Luck!!

  • Thanks everyone :)

Despite was the one seamstress was trying to tell me, I put the dress on and the head seamstress was all "No, no, no, no... This looks all wrong. I will fix it." In a matter of minutes she snipped away threads and pinned the sash where it should have been.

Long story short, the dress will be fixed by June 2. No other alterations needed-- it fits me like a dream!
