Engraving rings?

Hi there,
We've been thinking of engraving our wedding bands, but after looking at Tiffany's website, it seems like they only do a 3-letter initial.
Does anyone know any of the shops that do accept engraving requests, specifically for a 3-4 word saying?
My engagement ring is Cartier, so I was looking at a set from them, but since we want to have them personalized I really want to know if they can do this.
Also -- any experience that people have of this going really well, or really poorly, please pass on stories.  I don't know if it could hurt the quality of the ring in any way, and would like to avoid that...

It's not about the shop, it's about the ring, really.  If the band is too narrow or the size is too small, they're not going to be able to do any engraving.

It also depends what the ring is made out of. My friend is doing ours & works for Tiffany & said that platinum is very soft to engrave a lot on, gold (white or yellow) is much better.

Our rings have the 4 letter names we call each other by and the wedding date engraved, pix in my bio. I think you can have it done independently if Cartier isn't willing to accomodate your request. As far as the number of characters it depends on the size of your ring. I couldn't have had my full name 'cause it's too long.

Jared will also do engravings in house and pretty resonably, but if hes going for any kind of alternitive metal (e.g tungston, titainium ect) it cant be engraved at all!

def go and talk to a local jewelry store. maybe a private, non-chain store one
