Tan through swimsuits

Hello ladies,

Has anyone had any experience with the tan through swimsuits?  I was thinking about buying one this summer so I don't have to worry about tan lines for my wedding in August, but I'm hesitant.  I'm wondering if they really work, the best place to get one, and if they're worth the money.  Any input, good or bad would be apprecaited.

Re: Tan through swimsuits

  • I've never had one, but I've heard that the big problem with them is that you don't tan through where the seams are. So you still end up with tan lines at the neck, etc, where there is more than 1 layer of fabric.

    Life is good today.
  • Why not just a bandeau top?  Does your dress have a low back / front?

  • Never done it

  • Never heard of it.  I agree with bandeau top.

My dress dipped in the back and I just switched top styles everytime I was in the sun so I never got one set tanline.  They all kind of blended and I had color all over w/out any issues.
  • I agree, go with a bandeau top.  I saw a morning show which said the tan-through swimsuits don't tan at the seams, and also increase your risk for burns/skin cancer because most of them don't block UV rays, and people don't want to cover their whole body with sunscreen.

  • Thanks ladies, if the tan through suits don't tan at the seams then I'm not going to spend the money to get one.  I've never tried the bandeau tops but I think this is the summer to do so :)  We do a lot of camping, floating and boating during the summer - do the bandeau tops stay in place?
  • Mine (all from VS) stay in place, but it probably depends on your body type and chest size.  The suits I have all have a no-slip rubber strip all around the cup, similar to on most strapless bras but with more coverage, and they basically don't move.  There are bandeau one-piece suits that might be a little more secure if you're concerned about water sports.

I also bought a bunch of bandeau tank tops for outdoor activities (fishing, hiking) and had no issue as long as I had a good strapless bra on.

  • I'm worried about tanlines too and bought a strapless one - piece since I'm a swim instructor. I plan on wearing my regular bikinis on the weekends and whatnot but doing more laying out with my suit untied than usual to try to even things out... at the end of the summer i'll decide whether or not i'll go to the booth...
